Hello!

We have 4 bikes in our garage, Trek Roscoe, Giant Fathom, Aventon Level 3 and the Aventon Current EXP. (It is at the LBS but not in my hand yet since I'm traveling.)

I'm pretty new to mountain biking and very new to working on my bikes. But I really want to learn. So what tools do I need in my shop? Being that this is the age of AI I asked Claude and here's what they said. Also, being that this is the age of AI, I know Claude, and the other AIs, can be pretty stupid and downright wrong. So I'm putting it out here.

Oh, I do have significant auto repair experience, I once replaced the clutch in a FWD car, so I'm not a total idiot.

I already have a floor pump and I know how to lube my chain and I carry a mini bike tool kit but have never used it.

Here's what Claude says to get. I would like specific brands if possible, but I guess you can't go wrong with Park.

Compressor & Inflation

  • [ ] Dual head chuck — replaces existing Craftsman chuck, handles both presta and schrader (~$10) (this is for reseating the beads on the tires, I guess it is much harder than my old road bike with the plastic levers.)
  • [ ] Handheld digital pressure gauge — Topeak or Lezyne (~$20)

General Tools

  • [ ] Work stand — Park Tool PCS-10.3
  • [ ] Torque wrench — essential for carbon front triangle on EXP and e-bike torque specs
  • [ ] Hex/Allen key set — 2–10mm, T-handle and L-key versions
  • [ ] Torx key set — T10 through T45
  • [ ] Pedal wrench — 15mm
  • [ ] Cable/housing cutters — for Fathom, Roscoe, and Level 3

Drivetrain Tools

  • [ ] Chain tool
  • [ ] Chain wear checker
  • [ ] SRAM XD cassette lockring tool — for Current EXP (different from Shimano)
  • [ ] Shimano HG cassette lockring tool — for Fathom, Roscoe, Level 3
  • [ ] Two chain whips — or one whip and a chain keeper

Hydraulic Brake Service

  • [ ] SRAM DOT 5.1 bleed kit — for Current EXP Maven brakes
  • [ ] Magura Royal Blood / mineral oil bleed kit — for Level 3 Magura brakes
  • [ ] Shimano or Tektro bleed kit (confirm brake brand on Fathom and Roscoe first)

Suspension

  • [ ] Shock pump — high pressure, 300+ PSI; for Current EXP RockShox fork and rear shock, and Roscoe fork

What else am I missing? I know I need to "massage" the mavens, I've seen videos on that.
