Decathlon doesn`t make the software update? You had to take the bike to a LBS?

Most Decathlon stores didn't have the equipment to make the update, however more are now able to do the update. If you go to the decathlon website and search for Bosch software upgrade you can then search for which stores can do it.
When I brought mine a few months ago now, there were no local Decathlon stores who could do it hence people went to their LBS.
 
OK, as promised, I said I'd post when I'd swapped the 35 over to the Yari & here it is. Couple of points, I need to cut the steerer down a bit, I've only got it running on a 27.5 wheel, since the 29 I have is a boost hub & the fork is 100mm & I'm finding it hard to get hold of a non boost 29" with 15mm, believe it or not & I've had to Frankenstein the front brakes down to a shonky 180mm disc with a Shimano post adapter for now, as I forgot to order a 200mm Sram post adaptor.

So, a few wrinkles to iron out but the difference between the forks is night & day, much better small bump feel, zero stiction, the fork came with three tokens already in, which is offsetting the initial stroke with decent progression through the travel, so I'll stick with it I think.

It may have rained a bit round here yesterday :D

Is it ok just to hose it down with the garden hose? Any suggestions on what to do with slipping around in the mud? Don't want to splash out on a new set of tyres just yet. I think mine are pumped up to 20psi but need to check that. Higher or lower to gain a bit more control?
Mine is stock with a new Ergon SM-EMTB saddle and some mudguards which didn't do much this morning.

I’m down with that also. Didn’t properly getting into riding till got rid, found technical stuff horrible with those soft slippy smart Sam’s. Got 2.6 ewilds running tubeless, low pressure , feels amazing. New fork and front wheel soon hopefully :) just watched robs latest video on the Stilus . His looks so sick. It makes me sick ?

Hose down but dont spray directly into motor , that’s what I do. Rinse , use brush/sponge and bike wash , rinse again.
 
Decathlon cancelled the Stilus webpage. Entirely. Checked different sites (UK, IT, FR, etc.), all the same. What does this mean? Project ended (don't think so - it sold incredibly well)? Stilus will soon get some updates for 2021?

I'm sure if you go through this thread you will read incidents of where bikes have arrived with bits missing, scratched, dented and poor assembly. You will find the same about this bike on other forums. That said, at it's price point, some people are prepared to put up with those issues.

I find it inexcusable that people who are paid to do the various jobs along the bikes path to store or home are not picking up on it as perhaps they should.

The components on the bike are, in the main, excellent for the market it is aimed at. Sure there will be things that you will want to swap out to set it up how you want it. It's the assembly of those components that is sometimes lacking in attention to detail. Bolts not tightened as they should be or completely missing for example. Again this is seen to some as just a minor niggle.

I think that 99% of the people who have ridden this bike are enamoured by it but then again only 67.4% of the population believe in stats! Yes its a great bike, fantastic even, but buyers need to be aware that it may not arrive in the condition you would like and expect. For many it simply just didn't arrive!

For what its worth I think there will be plenty of these bikes coming available on the secondhand market. Not because they are not liked but because it has got so many people interested in the EMB scene and they will want the next best thing. Toys for boys drives ( or kills depending on your view point) the world as we want the lightest, newest, quickest mostest bestest thing we can afford.
 
Keep in mind the majority of happy owners aren't driven to join forums to sing the praises of their latest dishwashwer/lawn mower/e bike etc. It's human nature to have a moan, which these days means online & perceptions become distorted.

Good point but it doesn't mean that those that do moan dont have a valid reason to do so. I welcome all types of reviews so I can make my own mind up based on the ones that I feel are just. I'm sure we are now well versed in spotting all the different types of reviews, from the :love: to the ? reviewers. Not sure which category I should be in :unsure: ?

Yes get new tyres or you will be eating mud before you know it..LOL
 
Just after a few more miles on it (around 60 in total), the suspension got way better!!
With the stock tires, wich shoud be the "perfect" tire pressure? (to avoid punctures, but to have some decent traction..)

No such thing as the 'perfect' tyre pressure. Go tubeless to limit the amount of punctures and change the stock tyres if you want traction in mud. (y)
 
I ran the stock tyres pretty low (depends on your weight of course), but I’m 75kg and tried pressures between 13 and 17psi (I’m tubeless).

The challenge is, no matter what pressure you run the stock Smart Sams at, they will not grip in loose or muddy conditions.

If you just ride in the dry or on roads or solid paths then you could keep the Smart Sams but if you are riding off-road in winter conditions the front will wash out when cornering unless you are riding really slowly.

I upgraded to eWilds and the difference is night and day in terms of off-road grip but comparing my rides from Smart Sams to eWilds I have taken a battery hit as they are not as high rolling as the Smart Sams (not sure if others have also noticed a drop in battery performance).

As for cleaning, take a look at Robs Rides ebike cleaning video if your unsure ?

it's a closely spaced short block tyre tread designed for dry conditions and to roll fast on paths and roads so obviously it's not going to be a very good mud tyre.
but... if you had tried running HIGHER pressures. at least you would have had sidewall support. and depending on the width of rim (and volume of tyre), good sidewall support can actually help a dry conditions tyre to stay stiff enough that you can use the outer edge knobs to dig in and rail when leant over in muddy conditions. running them super soft just makes them "float" over mud giving horible vague handling characteristics at anything faster than plodding along and a lottery over when they'll let go completely.

I used to guide muddy scottish mtb group rides on smart sams intentionally, partly as they were fast rolling and access to and from the muddy woodland trails involved paths & roads. and perversely because I actually found their lesser grip allowed me to have a bit more fun drifting and railing ruts and turns when guiding a group of far less experienced slower riders.

Taking one look at a tyre and realising it's suitability for certain conditions really shouldn't be this challenging.

short, close spaced blocks = dry
longer more agressive spaced apart knobs - wet
everything inbetween = everything inbetween

Where as everything else they say that they've developed it. It also isn't presented as a "rockrider". Presumably it's made by someone else, so if anyones got a sharp eye, they might know what it is ??

Nope, the frame doesn't have any sizing information on it when you get it. The only way I could tell I had got a Large delivered correctly was to measure the frame with a Tape measure...

Thanks for the confirmation, will measure mine also.
Specially because my bike was 2 weeks on the shop (assistance service, they changed the motor), and now came, but the suspension works completely different (but for better), and I`m kind of unsure if it`s the same bike....they say it is, but on the notification (sent by mail and text message) it said my bike "Stilus M" was ready at the shop....but actually my bike is size L.
