Trek Rail+ 2026
From £4,250
EMTB Forums verdict

The Trek Rail+ 2026 is the brand's mainstream enduro eMTB and its first proper Bosch CX Gen 5 + PU2.0 platform, an Alpha Platinum aluminium chassis with ABP rear suspension. Headline numbers: 160 mm fork, 160 mm rear travel, Bosch CX Gen 5 at 120 Nm and 750 W peak post-PU2.0, the bigger 800 Wh RIB 2.0 removable PowerTube, a 64.5 degree head angle, reach 430 to 520 mm across imperial-and-metric sized eight rows, 24.1 kg claimed base weight, and a remarkable £4,250 entry price (Rail+ 5) stepping up to £8,500 for the 9.9 X0 AXS T-Type flagship. The community verdict, from @Rob Rides EMTB, is that this is "the most underrated ebike released recently": brilliant in 170 mm format as an enduro bike, big removable battery, Powermore compatible, and refreshingly normal-engineering rather than gimmicky.

Drive system and range. The Bosch CX Gen 5 with PU2.0 firmware delivers 120 Nm of torque and 750 W peak via the Bosch Flow App OTA. The 800 Wh RIB 2.0 PowerTube is removable through the down tube. @Bike Bot documents that the 800 Wh and 600 Wh packs share length, so adapter parts are interchangeable: a real rider can run dual batteries (light 600 Wh for short rides, full 800 Wh for big days) by swapping outer plates. @jacob80 on a 2026 Rail+ 9.7 confirms the "85-120 Nm torque output" range across firmware. Real-world range on 800 Wh in a Bosch CX Gen 5 chassis at 24 kg is comfortably 45 to 60 km of proper enduro riding, with Powermore range extender support for ultra-long days.

Geometry and handling. The 64.5 degree head angle is bang on enduro norm. Trek's Mino Link flip-chip and angle-adjust headset option give meaningful geometry tuning, with the platform supporting up to 180 mm forks per @Rob Rides EMTB ("180 mm fork with -1 angleset, not the best unless full send DH"). Reach is 430 to 520 mm with 446 to 448 mm chainstays and wheelbase scaling 1191 to 1314 mm. Mullet 29/27.5 wheels are standard on M to XL with 27.5 both ends on S. @Weeksy flags that the Rail+ is only available in S (450 mm reach) and L (490 mm reach) frame sizes in some markets, with no M size offered, so check availability locally.

Build and value. Six trims with a spread from £4,250 (Rail+ 5) to £8,500 (9.9 X0 AXS T-Type). The Rail+ 5 at £4,250 with RockShox Psylo Gold RC fork, Super Deluxe Select+ shock, Shimano MT420 4-piston brakes and Deore drivetrain is one of the best £/kit deals in the Bosch CX Gen 5 enduro segment. The 9.7 at £5,500 steps up to ZEB Select 38, the 9.8 GX AXS T-Type at £7,000 adds SRAM Transmission, the 9.8 XT at £7,750 swaps to RockShox ZEB Ultimate Charger 3.1 RC2, and the 9.9 flagship adds carbon Bontrager Line Pro 30 wheels. Standout is the £4,250 entry value. Questionable is the 24.1 kg weight at the heavier end of category norm.

Community-verified strengths. First, the chassis: @Bmg1 reports "feels really composed downhill, climbs great, super quiet". Second, the 800 Wh removable battery with Powermore compatibility is class-leading. Third, the platform takes upgrades cleanly: @irie's Ohlins TTX22 m.2 coil shock service at 2,500 miles confirms strong long-term durability. The 9.8 GX AXS T-Type is described by @Bike Bot as "a very solid bike and a great alternative for example for Gen 4 Levo".

Caveats and known gripes. Headset gasket failure is the headline flag. @johnmo reports his headset gasket "splits into two rings instead of remaining as single ring, causing seal failure within 6 months of use", with Trek dealer declining the warranty claim citing wear and tear. @biasbilt notes mullet setup is fixed (not full 29 compatible on most sizes), and the Avinox thumb-switch ingress issue is a separate platform concern (not Rail+ specific). M-size availability is regionally inconsistent per @Weeksy.

Verdict. The Rail+ is in current production and is one of the best-value Bosch CX Gen 5 enduros on the 2026 market. Buy it if you want the latest 120 Nm Bosch motor, a removable 800 Wh PowerTube, big-brand Trek dealer support and the flexibility to grow into 170 to 180 mm fork upgrades. Look elsewhere if you want carbon throughout (only the 9.9 trim has the Line Pro 30 carbon wheels), sub-23 kg lightweight, or a slacker 63-degree-or-slacker enduro head angle.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Wheels
Descending
71

A solid all-round descender (64.5° head angle, 160mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
60

A fair bit of pop, but happiest on flowing trail rather than trials moves.

Size balance
87

Balanced front-to-rear in L (FC:RC 1.84) — weight sits evenly between the wheels.

Technical climbing
77

Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 and a steep 77.2° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 750W of peak power and 120Nm of torque — among the most powerful e-bike motors made.

Best suited toBig-day all-rounders who climb a lot and still descend hard.

Strong up and composed down — a do-it-all, not a specialist.

Watch out forNo major red flags in the L geometry.

The numbers are well balanced for its category.

⚙️ Adjustable geometry: this frame has a high/low setting — low drops the BB and slackens the head angle for more descending stability; high lifts the BB and steepens slightly for clearance and a perkier, more playful feel.
