All-mountain carbon Stevens with Bosch Performance

The Stevens E-Inception AM 8.7 2026 is the German brand's carbon all-mountain eMTB, redesigned for 2026 with Bosch CX Gen 5 power and a frame approximately 500g lighter than its predecessor. Headline numbers: 160mm fork, 150mm rear, Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 at 120Nm and 750W peak with a 2.8kg motor mass, a removable 800Wh Bosch PowerTube battery, 24.0kg claimed, 64.0 to 65.0 degree head angle and reach 440 to 520mm across R1 to R5. Priced from GBP 6,499. Stevens is a long-established Hamburg-based brand with a strong reputation in CX/gravel/MTB; the E-Inception is the eMTB flagship and a credible Bosch-powered all-mountain platform.
Drive system and range. The Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 is the headline. Following Bosch's PU2.0 firmware push, the legacy 85Nm Gen 4 has been retired and Gen 5 sits at 120Nm of torque and 750W peak with a refined dynamic mode. The 800Wh PowerTube battery is removable via a downtube cut-out. Real-world range on 800Wh on a 160/150mm all-mountain platform sits at two to three hours of mixed alpine riding, with 1,500 to 2,200m of vertical achievable for typical riders. Bosch's Flow app, Kiox 300 display and OTA firmware updates are standard. @alex11 reports a previous-generation E-Inception ED 8.7 with Shimano EP8 and Darfon battery suffered E020 errors and battery BMS trips: a relevant caution for the predecessor, but the 2026 Bosch switch should mitigate this entirely.
Geometry and handling. 64.0 degrees up front in R1 to R4, easing to 65.0 degrees on R5: an unusual size-based head angle steepening. Reach steps cleanly: 440 (R1), 455 (R2), 475 (R3), 495 (R4), 520 (R5). Chainstays are a uniform 447mm and wheelbase tops out at 1313mm on R5. The new carbon SL HMF frame brings a 0.5 degree slacker head angle and a steeper seat tube versus the predecessor. The geometry is honest all-mountain: confident on steeps without being overslack for European singletrack.
Build and value. One base trim at GBP 6,499. Build kit at this trim typically pairs a RockShox Lyrik or Fox 36 Performance fork with a Float X or Super Deluxe Select+ shock, Shimano XT or SRAM GX mechanical drivetrain and four-piston brakes. Standout: carbon frame, Bosch CX Gen 5 and 800Wh removable battery under GBP 6,500 is competitive. Questionable: only one trim listed; buyers wanting AXS Transmission or higher-tier suspension will need to look at the broader E-Inception lineup.
Caveats and known gripes.
- Predecessor battery reliability. @alex11's E-Inception ED 8.7 GTF with Shimano EP8 and Darfon battery suffered E020 errors and BMS trips. The 2026 model's Bosch ecosystem should resolve this in principle but the previous-gen reports are worth knowing.
- Limited UK dealer network. Stevens is well-distributed in Germany and the Netherlands but thinner in the UK and US; warranty routing and Bosch motor service should be confirmed locally.
- One trim only. Buyers wanting upgraded suspension or drivetrain spec may need aftermarket fitment.
- R-size system. R1 through R5 is uncommon nomenclature; cross-reference reach (440 to 520mm) against your existing bike rather than relying on size codes.
- Limited curated forum signal. The 2026 E-Inception AM 8.7 has minimal owner reporting on the eMTB Forums community at the point of writing; long-term motor and frame reliability data is yet to mature.
- Brand awareness. Stevens is well-known in central Europe but less recognised outside Germany/Netherlands; resale value may be soft in other markets.
Verdict. The 2026 E-Inception AM 8.7 is one of the most credible Bosch CX Gen 5 carbon all-mountain eMTBs on sale at GBP 6,499, with a 500g lighter chassis than its predecessor, modern 160/150mm travel and 800Wh removable battery. It suits riders who want Bosch's mature ecosystem on a serious carbon platform with five-size fit options, and who can access a Stevens dealer for service. Buyers chasing AXS Transmission as standard, full-power Avinox or wider brand recognition should look at the Orbea Wild, Specialized Levo or Trek Rail Plus. Production status: current.
