Bosch CX Gen 5 full-power carbon trail/enduro eMTB

The Intense Tazer 2026 is the all-new full-carbon all-mountain platform from Intense and a clean-sheet rework of the brand's eMTB hero. Headline numbers: 160mm fork, 150mm rear, Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor at 120Nm and a 750W peak with a 2.8kg motor mass, a 600Wh battery, 64.5 degree head angle and reach 430 to 505mm across S, M, L and XL. Community read is cautiously optimistic: the bike represents a hard swing away from the previous Shimano EP8 platform (which had documented motor reliability issues, per @Bogdan_CH) and toward the proven Bosch ecosystem. @PeterHenric reports that an owner who has seen it in person likes the new Tazer "as much or more than the Levo 4".
Drive system and range. The Bosch CX Gen 5 is the headline switch from the previous-generation EP801. Following Bosch's PU2.0 firmware push, the Gen 5 sits at 120Nm and 750W peak with a dynamic mode that ramps assist far more naturally than the legacy Gen 4. The 600Wh battery is conservative versus rivals running 800Wh, but suits the carbon frame's compact downtube. @TheKaiser notes the downtube looks sized for the Bosch 800Wh PowerTube and speculates an upgrade path may be possible; this would be a buyer-confirmed item.
Geometry and handling. 64.5 degrees up front is bang on the modern all-mountain norm. Reach steps cleanly: 430 (S), 460 (M), 480 (L), 505 (XL). Chainstays are a uniform 445mm and wheelbase tops out at 1293mm on XL. Intense's heritage with VPP geometry on the analogue Tazer carries through but with a refined four-bar layout here. @Rex notes the new Tazer T benefits from a custom configurator that allows picking every single component, an unusually consumer-friendly buying experience for a small-batch carbon brand.
Build and value. The gold spec lists a base trim only. Intense's configurator (per @Rex) makes the build path bespoke: buyers select fork, shock, wheels, drivetrain and brakes from a menu. @PeterHenric notes some restrictions on the launch configurator including no 29-front-and-rear option, no Podium fork, no coil shock and no wireless dropper. The HX wheelset is omitted in favour of the EX. Standout: Bosch CX Gen 5 on a frame-first configurator. Questionable: launch-edition build limitations.
Community-verified strengths.
- Bosch motor switch. Owner anecdote via @PeterHenric: an in-person inspection rates the Tazer at least equal to a Levo Gen 4 and praises the Bosch motor and frame.
- Configurator buying experience. @Rex calls component-level customisation "pretty sick" and a notable competitive advantage.
- Intense heritage. @elesdee, a long-time Intense fan, calls the new Tazer (alongside the M1 and new Spider) evidence the brand is "on a good path" after some uneven years.
Caveats and known gripes.
- Battery only 600Wh. Smaller than the Bosch 800Wh PowerTube ceiling and meaningfully smaller than Avinox-powered or Levo Gen 4 rivals.
- Configurator launch restrictions. @PeterHenric flags missing 29 front-and-rear option, no Podium fork, no coil shock and no wireless dropper at launch.
- Predecessor reliability. @Bogdan_CH reports the EP800-equipped previous Tazer suffered a motor failure at 1,000km and 4 months with a 2+ month wait for replacement. The 2026 Bosch switch should mitigate this but it is a lived experience for some owners.
- Some owners moved on. @PeterHenric switched from a Shimano-equipped Tazer to a Specialized Levo Gen 4 and "hasn't ridden the Tazer since".
- Launch availability. Intense is a small-batch carbon brand; lead times can be long.
Verdict. The 2026 Tazer is Intense's confident return to the all-mountain eMTB segment with a full-carbon platform, modern 160/150mm travel, modern geometry and the proven Bosch CX Gen 5 motor. It suits riders who value brand heritage, want full configurator-level control over their build and prefer the Bosch ecosystem to the previous Shimano spec. Buyers needing 800Wh capacity, a 29-front-and-rear option, or fully-loaded launch-edition spec choices should look at Specialized Levo or Yeti LTe instead. Production status: current.
