EMTB Forums verdict

The Trance X Advanced E+ was Giant's full-power, long-range carbon trail E-MTB for 2023, sitting above the lightweight 400Wh Advanced E+ Elite in the range. It pairs a full Advanced-grade composite frame with 140mm of Maestro rear travel and a 150mm fork, on a full 29in wheel setup, and is built around the large 800Wh EnergyPak battery and the full-power SyncDrive Pro2 motor (85Nm, co-developed with Yamaha). That big battery is the defining difference from the Elite: more range and a heavier bike rather than the Elite's lighter, smaller-battery focus.

Two trims were sold in the UK off one frame. The Advanced E+ 1 at £7,999 was the flagship, with a Fox 36 Performance Elite Live Valve fork and Float X shock, Shimano Deore XT four-piston brakes on 220mm rotors, an XT 12-speed drivetrain and e-TRX carbon wheels. The Advanced E+ 2 stepped down to a Fox 36 Float Performance fork and DPS shock, Shimano SLX brakes on 203mm rotors and Giant AM alloy wheels, keeping the same frame, 800Wh battery and SyncDrive Pro2 motor.

A halo Advanced E+ LTD also existed, listed in the US at 15,000 US dollars, with a Fox 36 Factory Live Valve fork and Float X shock, SRAM XO1 Eagle AXS wireless shifting, Code RSC brakes, a SRAM Reverb AXS dropper and Zipp 3ZERO MOTO carbon wheels. A UK RRP for the LTD could not be confirmed.

Geometry is adjustable via a flip chip giving a slacker, lower Low setting (around 65.7 to 65.8 degrees head angle, 30mm BB drop) and a steeper, higher High setting (66.5 degrees, 20mm BB drop). Reach on a size L runs 482mm Low to 489mm High and chainstays are a long 473mm across all sizes, reflecting the bigger battery and full-power motor packaging. This generation is now discontinued and appears at clearance pricing.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Setting
Descending
58

A solid all-round descender (65.8° head angle, 140mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
31

More planted than poppy — better on steep terrain than tight, fiddly singletrack.

Size balance
78

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.68) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
77

Giant SyncDrive Pro2 and a steep 76° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 250W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toBig-day all-rounders who climb a lot and still descend hard.

Strong up and composed down — a do-it-all, not a specialist.

Watch out forNot a flickable, playful bike — built to plough, not pop.

Brilliant on fast, rough, steep terrain; less fun on tight, mellow trails.

⚙️ Adjustable geometry: this frame has a high/low setting — low drops the BB and slackens the head angle for more descending stability; high lifts the BB and steepens slightly for clearance and a perkier, more playful feel.
Computed from geometry + spec, not a paid review. Scores are guidance, not gospel.
