EMTB Forums verdict

The 2022 Reign E+ is Giant's full-power enduro eMTB, an all-new platform that drops the old freeride numbers for a longer, slacker chassis. It runs 160mm of Maestro rear travel and a 170mm fork on an ALUXX SL aluminium frame with an Advanced Forged Composite upper rocker, and pairs a 29in front wheel with a 27.5in rear (mullet) for a planted yet manoeuvrable feel. A flip-chip swaps between Low and High settings, shifting the head and seat angles by roughly 0.8 degrees and changing the bottom-bracket drop from 25mm to 15mm.

Power comes from Giant's SyncDrive Pro motor (85Nm, co-developed with Yamaha) fed by a downtube-integrated EnergyPak Smart battery, controlled via the RideControl Ergo 3 grip remote and RideControl GO LED console. The flagship E+ 0 carries a larger 750Wh pack, while the E+ 1, E+ 2 and E+ 3 use a 625Wh pack to keep weight and cost down; all are range-extender compatible.

Four aluminium trims spanned the range: the top E+ 0 with Fox Factory 38 and Float X2 plus a SRAM X01 Eagle build, the E+ 1 with Fox Performance Elite suspension and a Shimano XT groupset, the E+ 2 on a RockShox ZEB Select with SRAM GX/NX, and the value E+ 3 on a RockShox Domain with Shimano Deore. Now discontinued (the platform carried into 2023 with the larger 800Wh battery and SyncDrive Pro2 motor), it remains a long-travel, descent-focused enduro eMTB. The E+ 1 launched in the UK at 6,299; other trims were offered at European RRPs of 7,999 (E+ 0), 5,899 (E+ 2) and 5,199 (E+ 3).

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Setting
Descending
88

Slack 63.7° head angle, 160mm travel and a long 1265mm wheelbase — composed in the chunk, confident when it gets steep, and stable through fast corners.

Playfulness
38

More planted than poppy — better on steep terrain than tight, fiddly singletrack.

Size balance
98

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.79) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
75

Giant SyncDrive Pro and a steep 76.7° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toFast, steep, rough tracks — and riders who want maximum composure.

Rewards commitment; it should feel calmer as the speed rises.

Watch out forNot a flickable, playful bike — built to plough, not pop.

Brilliant on fast, rough, steep terrain; less fun on tight, mellow trails.

⚙️ Adjustable geometry: this frame has a high/low setting — low drops the BB and slackens the head angle for more descending stability; high lifts the BB and steepens slightly for clearance and a perkier, more playful feel.
Computed from geometry + spec, not a paid review. Scores are guidance, not gospel.
