Lightweight 29er carbon trail on Forestal EonDrive 60Nm + 360Wh

The Forestal Cyon 2025 is a Spanish-built carbon trail eMTB pioneering the SL+ category with integrated frames, colour touchscreens and a sub-19kg system weight. Headline numbers: 150mm fork, 150mm rear, Bafang M820 motor at 80Nm and 2.3kg, an integrated 360Wh Aurora battery, 18.8kg claimed, 65.5 degree head angle and reach 430 to 500mm across SM to XL. Six trims from GBP 6,999 (Diode Standard) up to EUR 10,699 (Halo Pro). The community read is mixed: Forestal led the SL hi-tech aesthetic, but range and the long-promised 250Wh extender have been persistent thorns. Owner @TCFlowClyde bluntly notes the M820 "sucks up battery" with roughly an hour of trail riding on the 360Wh Aurora.
Drive system and range. The Bafang M820 is one of the few credible mid-drives outside the Bosch/Shimano/Brose orthodoxy. 80Nm and a 2.3kg motor mass position the Cyon between true SL (TQ HPR50 at 50Nm) and full-power CX class. The 360Wh Aurora battery is integrated into the downtube and not removable. Real-world range is the system's Achilles heel: @TCFlowClyde reports practical riding requires the long-promised 250Wh extender, and the extender has been repeatedly delayed since end of 2023. Forestal has since announced a switch to DJI Avinox for 2026 model years, which makes the 2025 Cyon a transitional product. Charging happens on-bike.
Geometry and handling. 65.5 degrees up front is on the modern trail eMTB norm: confident on UK trail-centre fare without being overslack for tighter European singletrack. Reach steps cleanly: 430 (S/SM), 455 (M/MD), 480 (L/LG), 500 (XL). Chainstays grow from 435 to 445mm with frame size, a thoughtful proportional touch. Wheelbase tops out at 1268mm on XL. The single-pivot layout is unusual for a trail bike at this price; suspension feel is more like a Santa Cruz VPP than a Horst Link. The frame integrates the touchscreen display flush into the top tube, which is a true Forestal signature.
Build and value. Six trims is unusual for a small brand. Diode Standard (GBP 6,999) is the entry point and gets you the same 18.8kg frame and motor at a meaningful saving. Neon Pro (GBP 8,499) and the base build (GBP 9,999) step up the suspension and finishing kit; Halo and Diode Pro (GBP 9,999 to 10,000) are the brand's flagship variants. Halo Pro (EUR 10,699) is the European top-spec. Standout: 18.8kg with 150/150mm travel and full-power class torque is rare. Questionable: 360Wh is half what most rivals offer at this price.
Caveats and known gripes.
- 360Wh and a slow-to-arrive extender. @TCFlowClyde describes the bike as needing the 250Wh extender to be practical, and the extender has missed multiple promised release windows.
- Integrated battery. Charging on-bike, no swap-and-go, no easy flat storage.
- Transitional product. Forestal's switch to DJI Avinox for 2026 means the M820 Bafang Cyon will be the last of its kind: long-term motor service and parts availability is a fair question.
- Premium price, niche brand. EUR 10,699 for the Halo Pro buys top-tier Specialized or Trek SL with broader dealer networks.
- Single-pivot rear. Feel is acquired taste; riders coming off four-bar Horst Link frames may find the pedalling response different.
- Limited UK and US dealers. Service routing leans heavily on Forestal's Andorra HQ and a small handful of European distributors.
Verdict. The 2025 Cyon is a uniquely styled, sub-19kg trail eMTB with the Bafang M820's surprising mid-tier torque on a true Forestal showpiece frame. It suits riders who value low weight, integrated touchscreens and Spanish design, and who can live within a 360Wh range envelope or wait for the 250Wh extender. Riders chasing big-mountain range, Bosch's app polish, or a removable battery should hold off for the 2026 DJI Avinox replacement. Production status: current, but the model will pivot to Avinox for 2026.
