The Cannondale Moterra SL 2026 is the carbon lightweight full-power Moterra, a 19.5 kg trail/enduro chassis built around a custom-tuned Shimano EP801 and a 601 Wh battery. Headline numbers: 160 mm fork, 145 mm rear, 85 Nm of torque, 600 W peak, a properly slack 62.5 degree head angle, reach from 420 to 505 mm, and a £6,499 entry price for the SL 2. The community verdict, summed up by @David Dobson, is that it was "absolutely blown away" by the bike on the Golfie, with the slack front end disappearing under you once you ride it rather than just looking at it.

Drive system and range. The Shimano EP801 is the well-known 2.7 kg, 85 Nm full-power motor with Cannondale's own tune, which softens initial bite for a more natural pedalling feel than out-of-the-box EP8. The 601 Wh integrated pack is small by full-power standards but is the price you pay for the 19.5 kg claimed weight. Real-world range is solid in mild conditions, but @GeordieDownSouth flags a significant winter drop versus a Bosch 625 Wh and frequent BMS resets below 5 degrees, so cold-weather riders should plan accordingly. Owners can also fit Shimano's external battery extender to add capacity for big days.

Geometry and handling. The 62.5 degree head angle is one of the slackest in the lightweight full-power class and sets the Moterra SL apart from rivals at 63.5 to 64.5. Reach progresses 420, 445, 470 and 505 mm with size-specific chainstays (449/449/453/458 mm) and a wheelbase that scales 1219 to 1327 mm, so XL riders get proper rear-centre length. @Rhitter notes the bike feels slightly smaller than comparable sizes (a Large feels smaller than a Large Jekyll), so size up if you are between sizes. The result is a confident, planted descender that still corners playfully thanks to a relatively short rear.

Build and value. Two named trims plus the base frameset sit in the lineup. SL 2 at £6,499 is the volume model and the value sweet spot. SL 1 at £7,999 steps up suspension and finishing kit. @hajpr's Tiger Shark SL2 build shows the platform's upgrade potential: RockShox ZEB Ultimate 3.1 160 mm fork, DT Swiss wheels, Kryptotal DH rubber and a sub-20 kg total weight with an 835 Wh aftermarket pack. Standout choice is the Cannondale-tune EP801 and 62.5 degree front in a 19.5 kg package. Questionable point is the 601 Wh battery and Shimano's locked-down display ecosystem, which @BouncyCornetto caught out trying to fit a Shimano centerlock magnet that the EP801 refused to recognise.

Community-verified strengths. First, that 62.5 degree front end is rated as composed without being slow. @David Dobson says the head angle is "noticeable in a visual way only and not at all" while riding. Second, the chassis disappears under you: @SantaFeKG reckons even the Amflow PL feels like a non-eMTB compared with the Moterra SL's natural ride feel. Third, the platform is highly tunable, with @hajpr documenting display deletion via direct switch wiring and easy ZEB/38 fork swaps.

Caveats and known gripes. Reliability is the headline flag. @Boxmonkey reports an E914 error at around 300 miles causing a complete shutdown, with three Moterra SL owners at the same dealer hitting it: one needed connector cleaning, one a new battery, one a new motor. @GeordieDownSouth separately hit a full EP801 firmware corruption after rough terrain, traced to a loose display cable. The Shimano ecosystem also lacks the OTA polish of Bosch Flow or DJI Avinox.

Verdict. The Moterra SL 2026 is in current production and aimed squarely at trail and enduro riders who want a slack, lightweight full-power carbon with strong dealer support. Buy it if you want a 62.5 degree front, 19.5 kg weight and the EP801 motor in a chassis that swallows aggressive geometry. Look elsewhere if you ride hard winters or need a 700 Wh-plus battery without external add-ons.
