Folks unlike the rest of UK and indeed Ireland and Europe we sad souls in Northern Ireland can't legally ride our ebikes in public spaces.

Because we never got round to changing the laws like every other country in Europe we need to register ebike with DVLA in Swansea, tax, insure, get motorbike licence and wear motorbike helmet.

Police have already charged a rider and seized his bike last week.?

Your support with the petition below would be appreciated.

How the hell did that happen anyway?

NI is part of the UK which is part of the EU so should be the same.

Hi Dominic. If i understand the issue correctly it's down to the fact that the implementation of this EU law was devolved to the regional governments in UK. i.e. Welsh, Scottish and NI.

The NI Assembly is non existent at the moment because they can't reach an agreement (Long story and not one for EMTB forum).

Hence they never got round to implementing the legislation.

The Police are currently operating under the old legislation and two weeks ago charged a cyclist and seized his bike.

Ridiculous. The petition is a bid to encourage the police to use common sense.

There appears to be some progress being made: Update on N.I. e-bike regs.
