Hello everyone,

I hope someone here can help me out.

For some time now, my Ghost e-bike—equipped with a Yamaha PW-ST motor—has been providing absolutely no motor assistance whatsoever. The display generally functions normally; the battery is recognized, and the system powers on, but while riding, the motor offers no support at all.

Additionally, the odometer reading on the display flashes continuously, and no speed is displayed (it shows 0 km/h or simply no reading).

So far, I have taken the following steps:

I have already replaced the speed sensor with a new one.

I have checked the sensor positioning.

I have conducted several test rides.

I have read out the system data using the Yamaha Diagnostic Software.

The diagnostics only show Error 36: "Abnormal power detected during operation." No other errors are stored or displayed.

The motor fails to provide assistance in any support mode. Since the speed is not being detected and the odometer is constantly flashing, I now suspect that the system is not receiving a valid speed signal. However, as mentioned, the speed sensor has already been replaced.

Prior to this failure, I had been working on the bike—specifically, I had adjusted the speed sensor or its position. While I hope this isn't the root cause, I wanted to mention it here for the sake of completeness.

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue, or does anyone have an idea of what I should check next? Could it be a broken cable, the magnet positioning, loose connectors, the wiring harness, the motor controller, or something else entirely?

I would be extremely grateful for any tips or shared experiences.

Thanks in advance!

I have very similar issue on Yamaha pw-te. During normal ride engine stop supporting suddenly, in fact external temp was high ( around 40 degree and on the sun much more. Odometer is blinking and no support from engine. Under diagnostic tool no error displayed, tests passing ( sensor, engine...). Battery is ok, checked in other bike, sensor is ok, checked in other bike. Full reset was performed but immediately after power on odometer is blinking. I connected this engine to my second bike and same behavior. I'm going to open it and extract main board for visual inspection. Any other advises ?
Thanks a lot
