Worth snagging an XL Amflow PL for 6k USD now or wait for M2 motor?

I'd like a bike now to ride for the next month, but I'm curious if the drag improvement in the M2 system is really worth waiting the extra month and change to see the M2?

What are your guys thoughts on pricing of new bikes with the M2 system? Is the Amflow PL @ 6k USD a steal enough to just risk it and buy it now?

This really depends on your personal financial priorities.

The M1 might have rattles (also might not), might be a bit less efficient (as the earlier DJI's appear to have been), and almost certainly will be 300 grams lighter and a bit less powerful than the M2 (which no one needs, seriously).

You have to weigh all of those factors against the likely price difference and the value of getting to ride your new bike right now.

It's pretty rare that the new version of anything is less money.

Why don't you try low balling the one in stock and see if you can make a killer deal on it? 25-30% off MSRP seems reasonable to me.

One thing I will say, and take it from me, you can weigh options and try and predict the future indefinitely in this hobby. At some point, especially if you don't have a good e-bike in the garage already, you have to leap, lest life and good times passes you by.

But conversely version 2's generally have version 1's problems/issues fixed.

Like Suns_PSD says, you just have to weight your priorities. Ride now and get a better price, or wait and pay more. How much discount vs. "issues" vs. riding now is such a personal decision. Thousands of riders out on Amflows living it up and have a great time.

Personally, I'm buying a non-Avinox bike ATM and waiting till there's more market saturation and a v2.

Thermal management that actually works across the board. The DJI Avinox M1 had to use a triple spindle seal to deal with motor noise, which created enough drag that it takes 3lbs of force just to turn the crank with no chain attached. The M2 reportedly fixes this, but the fact that noise suppression created a measurable efficiency penalty shows how much room there is for better thermal and mechanical engineering across the industry.

I have version 1. After 800 miles and 49,000 feet of climbing I have no rattles and no issues. I think I speak for the majority of owners with my experance.

After seeing how well the Version 1 motor has performed (first attempt). I am really looking forward to seeing how V2 improves on a very impressive drivetrain, knowing how DJI tends to have a fast upgrade cycle.

If youre not a ‘Limited Edition Larry’, then snag up that PL. Especially if you dont already have an eeb in the garage. There will always be the next best thing

That's not a deal at all for a 2025 model with the old drivetrain, old fork, and rattly motor.

The 2026 model has a significantly updated fork, superior T-type drivetrain, and seemingly fewer reports of rattles (mine is completely silent). Plus, they include the nifty headlight which is worth at least $100. You can order direct, have your local dealer match the price for a new build, or leverage for a suitable discount on old inventory.

The M.2 motor will be better in several ways, of course. But it won't be on sale - so even if they keep the same MSRP, it'll cost $1500 more. I certainly can't imagine how it could be $1500 better.

Amflow might also update the PL frame to coincide with the new motor, and it too will be better. But the rev.1 frame really doesn't need much improvement. It has a weird crown race and the size M doesn't fit Rockshox forks, but otherwise there's not much room for improvement for this geometry/style.

Well at least in the US it looks like Amflow direct to consumer is completely sold out. Depending if/when their next bike comes out this might be it for future production of the current bike
