Hot weather?
Using washing up liquid on them?
UV rays?

Maybe they perish and need replacing after a couple of years or is there something I can do to get rid of the horrible stickiness?

I was semi serious.
Sweat from riding gloveless kills grips quick. In the past, wasps have taken a liking to worn sweat damaged grips on older bikes in one of my sheds. The result was super sticky grips. Detergent would possibly help remove the stickiness but I just binned the grips.

Start shorting shares in grip manufacturers.
Wasp numbers will fall this summer due to the severe winter frosts. ? ❄️
