Whats the best action camera 📷

I've been using the insta360 x5 for a while now and you can get some really intresting shots on loads of different mounts with un matched field of view and you can frame the shots in post. I'll never go back to a gopro. Dji have a good 360 camera too which I hope to get and sync with my new avinox powered Velduro for gps stats.

My two penneth... I've had a few Gopros in the past, the last being the GP8. I was generally happy with it but got fed up with it suddenly freezing (usually at the worst time) and having to pull the battery to unfreeze it.
I've now had my DJI Action 4 for a year or so. Really happy with the picture quality, battery life and reliability (it has never frozen).
I shoot in 4K in D-Log M colour space. I use a Stuntman chest harness (an excellent bit of kit). I've never felt comfortable using a helmet attachment as it would seem to invalidate what the helmet is trying to do in terms of head protection. I realise that the wrong sort of crash could be pretty damaging to one's chest using a chest harness though.
I edit in DaVinci Resolve (free version) and it can do far more than I need. I enjoy editing though. I used to use Shotcut but DaVinci is a step up I think.

I've used GoPro in the past, but the weight when mounted on a helmet was a bit much, and I don't like having a cam strapped to my chest. I'm a trail rider, and the handlebar mounting results have been horrible to watch. DJI software scares me.
I have been using an Insi360 Go, typically mounted on my helmet visor or the magnetic pendant on my chest. It's super light, records for about 30 min at a pop before needing to be put into the pod for a quick recharge.

Have a look over here.

I've had many over the years but the Osmo Nano is the first in a while that you just clip on and forget. 54g and shoots the same footage as the Action 5 Pro.
I'll take it out and not even use it occasionally.

Video on the link is from the visor mount.

I guess I could use google, but do they make a boost lens for the nano? I have the OA5 and loooove the FOV with the boost lens, in portrait orientation. My only real complaint would be it hits my chest from time to time in that orientation, with a chin mount.

Recent clip from Jarrod’s:

I think I saw someone talking about using the boost lens for the OA on the nano on YT somewhere, I believe the lens cap is the same size, but edges were way too warped for my liking.

Hi

Don't really do much but I had a GoPro Hero 8 Black, but in anything but the best light the stabilisation and quality was poor, got a 360 X4 about 18 months ago and the quality was leaps and bounds ahead - the stabilisation is almost perfect - even on a handlebar mount. I've used chest, helmet and handlebar mounts and all work well.

The real thing though is the ability to reframe and even share 360 videos.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned in the thread is that it's also a great camera for travel, parties, walking etc

Also on all these videos, don't watch them embedded - you don't get the high resolution options etc

360 Photos

Time Lapse

360 videos (got to be viewed on Youtube and in 4k min as it's the full 360 frame resolution)

If you're willing to do some external editing you can do split screen by reframing and then editing together

Or you can just use it on a chesty for trail cam and use the 60 fps to do slow mo (not that this track is anything silly)

Don't do enough to justify spending more - but the 360 goes with me a lot more than a GoPro/DJI would....

Off the top of my head battery does about 50 minutes, probably depends on settings etc

I also use Resolve (paid version). Its capabilities are super deep but it’s not that involved once you set up your power grade presets. Then it’s about production and creating compelling content. Thats the part I mostly ignore. My footage is really just a log of my riding for myself in case I fall or come across some wildlife.

The Free version is extremely capable too - it's more than enough for most basic users - creating edits, cropping, zooming, colour correcting all in the free version!
