What other brand brakes will fit the Rail 5?

Stock Tektro HD-M745 are ok but I'd like to upgrade. Also, can the current stock rotors stay?

Yeah stock rotors are 203mm which is a Shimano size standard.

So you can fit Shimano 4 pots from the MT520’s to XTR’s and everything in between without changing the stock rotors and post mount spacers.

I'm curious as to why? I've got G2 RSC's and XTR's on my other two bikes and the Tektros are just flat out better when you mount the levers inboard and adjust closer to the bars for one-finger braking. Pads are great too and long wearing. I honestly have to laugh at all those immediately swapping to Deores (without giving the Tektros a chance) which would be a major downgrade IMHO. Maybe I'm the only one who broke them in properly? The only better brakes out there are Saints, Codes or TRP DH's. Save your money unless you're a heavyweight or you ride park all the time; then get one of the three I listed.

Have FUN!

Interesting comment. I'm a bit suspicious that updating to "any" 4-piston calibers and cylinder would make anything better. I'm considering Hayes Dominion A4 but feeling at the same time that need is not so real.

I have given them a chance. Recently rode a friend's Rail 7 with the Shimano 4 pods and it was very noticeable difference. But maybe you're right and I didn't break them in properly?? Maybe I'll try new pads first and do a very strict break in period. Thx

What year is your Rail 5? The 2021 version shipped with metal ceramic pads that work incredibly well (gold backing). The brakes are the last thing I'd upgrade on mine! A huge part of that was adjusting my lever throw properly to get them closer to the bar for one-finger braking and I cleaned my pads/rotors after break-in. Also these Tektros can use the same pads as Shimano Saints M810 or M820 so they have plenty of surface area. I'm just not seeing the problem. Here's another review that feels the same way I do: Tektro Orion Review in June 2021 - New Edition

I moved the levers inboard and closer to the bar. I thought I had them as far in as they would go but I got the levers ever closer today. I like it! Much better feel. Now time for new pads I think. Thanks for the suggestion! ??
