I've got a Mudhugger XL over the back wheel but is there something that can be adapted to protect the shock and motor from mud?

Mudhugger front fitted on the back

I also have the front mudhugger fitted on the back but cut a little shorter at the motor end than the pic above....plus a cut down Enduro front mudguard mounted on the chainstays such that the mudhugger slides inside the enduro mudguard.

I use the Mudhugger XL with re-useable zip ties so I can fit it on the bike in minutes whilst leaving the original mudguard set up in place........for those occasions when the trails are running with water. It is easily removed in minutes if the extra protection is not needed on dry trails.

I think they are the same...FR the old name....FRX the new name.

There is one called a MugGaurd that worked pretty well stuffed inside a mudhugger. It's reasonably priced and needed only minor trimming on my 2019 Trance.

This one, called a Progaurd, seems to be my favourite, and I run it without the mudhugger. I get covered but the bike stays reasonably well protected.

Ordered one of these to see what it's like.

I wish some manufacturer would come up with one that fitted without ugly bloody cable ties. It should come from the factory already fitted with one, especially given its protecting such an important part of the bike.

You could always take the rear wheel out and then teminate all cable ties inside the guard. But that's my OCD talking.

Just so all the sharp ends are right next to the tyre sidewall.
Mudguards will always look a bit crap, but so does a huge skunk stripe up your arse or face. I’ll happily look a bit odd if it’s keeps me dry and warm.

Done properly, there's no sharp ends, and if you've got that much movement in your wheel, time to check the bearings!

Ever seen a Gopro slomo and noticed how much wheels flex under load?
I was using a Gopro with my mate ahead of me on the trail. He got his front wheel into a rut and it threw him off. In a slowmo of the crash you would swear his front wheel was buckled beyond repair!..He got back on a rode......no damage to the wheel!

I use reusable cable ties because I am a tight git. Get them from garden centre. Also remove the rear mudhugger regularly as it is AMAZING how much Suffolk Clay sticks to the underside and adds to. Weight and lowers clearance

So as stated earlier I ordered one of these and it fits like a dream. Took it out today in the wet etc and it worked well.

You buy them ???
Not that tight obviously. I get mine off lampposts and the railings from the side of the road, where temp advertising signs are put. All you need is a mini pair of snips and you've an unlimited supply.

I'ver a number of old crud raceguards of different styles, and just looked them out tonight. I'll get on adapting something tomorrow.

Suffolk Clay.........Suffolk sand and Loam where I ride!

Ordered one of those Sicomtb on the back of this thread. Arrived at the weekend and fitted it today. Great design, fits beautifully around the frame brace. Hopefully keep bottom pivot nice and clean now.
Not cheap, but on initial impressions looks well worth it.

I still reckon it would be too much hassle for me, my winter riding is wet chalk, which would clog any mudguard down there very quickly. So I put up with the water and mud all over the linkage+shock+motor. No probs yet, 2nd winter.
