What is a good suspension fork upgrade for a fuel exe 9.5?
The 9.5 comes with a RockShox Yari RC, which is a capable enough fork but decidedly the weakest link in an otherwise decent package. JCU Delt Ox put it bluntly that the 9.5 spec is woefully inadequate compared to the 9.7, and the fork is a big part of that story.

The most logical upgrade path is a Fox 36 in the 160mm travel range. The 9.8 runs a Fox Factory e-Spec 36, which is the gold standard for this frame, but the e-Spec designation is largely marketing - hainman ran a standard Fox 36 Grip2 on an eBike from new without issue. A Fox 36 Performance Elite or Factory with Grip2 damper will transform the front end, and 160mm suits the Fuel EXe nicely. Hitorogoshi confirmed the frame handles 160mm travel without drama across technical terrain.

If budget is a concern, the RockShox ZEB Select is worth considering too, slightly plusher character than the 36 and well-suited to eMTB use. You can also upgrade the internals later if you want to go further - a Charger 3 damper swap into existing ZEB lowers is a known upgrade path that Gandalf documented on a similar build.

One thing worth knowing: dannyb runs a PUSH ACS3 coil-converted Fox 36 Grip2 VVC on his Fuel EXe, which is the premium end of the spectrum. Brilliant if you want to extract everything from the chassis, but it's a meaningful investment on top of the fork purchase itself.

What's your budget and riding terrain? That'll narrow it down considerably between the Fox and RockShox options.

Fox 36 Performance Elite or Rockshox Lyrik Ultimate in 160mm is ideal for trail and light enduro on the ex-e and will give you all the adjustability you could need. The Fox 38 or Zeb would be overkill unless you’re riding heavy enduro/dh or weigh over 90kg and ride aggressively.
