No manual with it.

Is it a trim for the top of the seat tube?

Thanks, I suspect you're right.
Mine currently doesn't have that fitted and I presume it keeps water and crap out. I'll fit it later.

That will be a bitch to fit because you'll have to take the dropper out.

I agree..
Maybe better to saw it at the narrow point then use a super glue ( like gorrilla ) to fix it back together once in place

Don't saw it, it will remove material and it wont fit back on!
Instead, split it with a sharp knife and maybe a hammer. Then when you glue it back together (AFTER you have put it in place), it will fit ok.

No need to over think this …just cut the post and slide the dust ring into position. Use Gorilla Glue to attach the post back on. oooorrrr this vvvv.
