My best friend purchased this bike from here in early 2022;

unfortunately he passed away in June 2022 and the bike hasn’t been used since, I imagine it has done less than 200 miles in total and is still in immaculate condition. He paid around £4000 for it.

His widow has asked me what it’s worth, the battery has been kept inside and I’ve asked her to put it on charge to check it.

what do you think it’s worth? Thanks

There's a couple on Gumtree for around £2,500 and a low mileage one on Pinkbike for £3,000 so that's ballpark figures. Lithium batteries don't degrade sitting around so long as not flat, so fingers crossed.

Depending on your location, you could try Upway

Go to the "sell your bike" and you can upload pics and description - they then will provide a quote within 24-48 hours for which you have several days to accept/reject.
While what they quote isn't what you might be able to get selling outright as they need to make a profit, but since their ability to market nationally/multi-nationally it makes the process very simple.

I've sold 3 e-bikes here in the U.S. to them - fair price, easy to deal with, very responsive.

As this is a special case, how about this as a suggestion?

Take the bike to a dealer that sells Trek ebikes. Tell them your story and ask them to check it over. Particularly on battery health and anything to do with the motor and controls. They could update the software too. Fix anything else they see.
Ask them to produce printed copies of the results that you can take with you.

Two options here:
1. Ask them to sell it for you (a fee would need to be negotiated).
2. (My preference). Sell it yourself, but offer the buyer the opportunity to collect the bike from the dealer. You will step outside and the buyer can ask questions of the dealer. That way, they can be sure that the bike is "as described". I know that this gives a lot of confidence to the buyer because I have been told so by the two buyers I have dealt with in this manner.

On the first one, I paid £50 to the dealer. Which on a £3000 bike was less than 1.7%. The dealer wasn't expecting anything from me, but the deal went so well, that I offered him £50 (one from the wad of 50's that the buyer had just given me seemed fair). £50 to help clinch a £3000 deal was OK by me, and it was a profitable 15 mins for the dealer. I wanted him to be motivated to offer this service in the future. I gave him the same percentage when I sold my grandson's hardtail. I hope to be using him again shortly.

Even after the charges from the dealer, you are likely to make a bigger margin. Also, there will be no comeback from the buyer. And you can sell with a clear conscience! :)

Well the battery has charged up fine, although not tried it yet. Geoff’s widow has asked me if I can bring the bike back to my house (about 70 miles away) check it over then either sell for whatever I can get for it and return her £2000 if I get any more I can keep the extra cash.. or I buy it myself for £2000. I have 2 levos at the moment, a 2019 gen 2 carbon comp rocket red in XL and a 700w battery with 850km, and a 2024 gen 3 alloy in a large. I’m thinking that I’ll get Geoff’s bike back here and check it over and go for a ride ……. If I like it I may sell my Gen 2.

That sounds like a good solution. The widow gets a decent wedge of cash and she gets rid of the clutter. :)
You get a memento of a dear friend and one that should be with you for years! :)
And you get rid of a surplus bike that is "normal", ie no special circumstances that you have to argue to the seller. :)

I believe that it is an honourable transaction. Paying 50% for a bike that is over two years old and out of warranty is probably as good as you'd get. Only you would have confidence in the genuineness of it. It looks like win-win to me. Nice one @Howz (y)

So I’ve collected the bike which is immaculate. Geoff’s widow had take the battery out a few years ago …… anyway she gave me a set of keys which after trying I can tell are not for the bike, so I can’t put the battery back in! Open to ideas?
I’ve got the original manual which has a sticker in it with motor, battery, controller and one number and barcode says lock (6 digit number) …. Would this be the key code? Also does anyone know which type of key it should be ? I can see it could be an abus plus key after doing some research?

Yes, it will be an ABUS key. This is for my January 2022 Trek Rail which has a 2021 manufacture date.

thats great thanks, I think the lock sticker with the serial numbers in the book must be the key code, I’ll see if I can order some. have managed to get the battery in and check the total mileage which is 65 miles!!!
