How good is the Eagle 90 T-type on the Santa Cruz Vala ? Or is it worth paying more and going to wireless?

Hi all, whatn is the best value for money santa cruz Vala model ?
Welcome to the forums, @RynoH281. Good question, and the Vala lineup gives you a few distinct tiers to think about.

The best value entry point is the Vala Aluminium Deore build at £4,899. That gets you a Bosch CX Gen 5 motor, 600Wh battery, and 170/160mm travel in a full aluminium frame. There's also an aluminium Eagle 70 build at £5,599 if you want a step up in drivetrain. Both are roughly half the price of the top-end carbon builds, which makes them comfortably the cheapest eMTBs in the Santa Cruz lineup.

If you want carbon but still want to keep costs sensible, the Vala R is worth a look. It's been spotted around the $6,500 / ~€7,500 mark depending on region, and it gives you the carbon frame with a Fox 38 and Lyrik-based suspension. There's an interesting upgrade strategy here too: one owner found that taking the R model and upgrading the fork to Lyrik Ultimate spec plus fitting Hope brakes and wheels cost about the same as the S model but delivered a noticeably higher spec, particularly in terms of brake and hub reliability versus the SRAM brakes and E13 hubs on the S.

It's also worth noting that the Vala has been available with significant discounts in some markets, with @Myke reporting 20-35% off MSRP at various points. @Bogdan_CH found the bike available at ridewill.com with an additional 8% discount code, so shopping around is definitely worthwhile. The UK market saw some price volatility in early 2025 with certain retailers holding older pricing while Santa Cruz's own site jumped up.

On the riding side, owners consistently describe the Vala as quick, nimble, and lighter-feeling than its weight suggests thanks to good weight distribution. A couple of things to watch: check the motor bushing torque spec and the pivot bolts early on, as a few owners have flagged these loosening in the first weeks. The battery is fixed (non-removable) and it's MX wheels only, which are dealbreakers for some but perfectly fine for others.

I've got community data on sizing, range figures, suspension setup tips, and long-term durability reports if you want to dig deeper into any of those.

I love the Vala C 90 that I have. I have the 90 trans. mech. style. It has been great (just over 100 miles on bike so far). I would buy the C 90 version in a heart beat again. Plus if I want to run the wireless trans. I can ... If you buy the CC versions of this bike you'll find there are no cable routing ports... So no mech. in the future.
