I’m looking into upgrading the rear shock on my Trek Rail 7 Gen 2 (Large frame) and have some questions about shock size compatibility. I’m considering either the RockShox VIVID Coil Ultimate or the RockShox Super Deluxe Coil Ultimate. The factory size for my bike is 57.5mm stroke length, but I’ve noticed that both shocks are available in 60mm, 62.5mm, and 65mm.

Would using a longer stroke shock (60mm, 62.5mm, or 65mm) be a good fit for the Rail 7? How might it affect the bike’s performance, geometry, or cause any potential issues? Also, if anyone has experience with air suspension options that would work well for my bike, I’m open to those suggestions too.

Thanks in advance for any insights or recommendations!

Short of it seems you need a trunnion fit and and adaptor kit to get it set up on a medium! Large or XL may be okay

Ohlins TTX22m.2 eye to eye coil shock fits just fine on wife's 2022 alloy Medium Rail (as well as on my 2022 alloy Large Rail of course). Have to move the water bottle a little higher but that's easy to do.
