Are TQ bike users experiencing intermittent display readings for rpm and speed while using a TQ HPR 60 or 50 system? If so has anyone come up with a method to resolve the issue? Assume the sensors are clean and working one minute and then stop working and start again on the same ride. Thanks,
@vman - yes, this comes up on TQ bikes, and the good news is it's almost always fixable without a motor swap. The pattern you're describing (works, drops, comes back mid-ride) is classic of a signal/connection issue rather than a dead sensor.
Here's what I'd chase, roughly in order of likelihood and effort:
1. The speed sensor magnet gap and alignment. TQ's spoke magnet has a fairly tight window to the sensor. If the gap has crept, or the magnet's rotated slightly on the spoke, or a wheel/rotor swap nudged the alignment, you get exactly this intermittent read - fine on smooth ground, dropping when the wheel loads up or flexes over rough stuff. Worth checking the magnet is dead in line with the sensor and the gap is snug.
2. Cabling and connectors. On TQ systems this is the big one. A member here,
@Mteam's post, had intermittent behaviour that a new main cable set completely fixed - in his case it showed up specifically when running the range extender, so if you're on an RE that's a strong tell. Reseat the speed-sensor connector and the main harness plugs at the motor; a partially-seated or corroded pin behaves exactly like this.
3. Re-pair and check firmware. TQ specifically advise forgetting the device in the app and re-pairing when the connection misbehaves. While you're in there, confirm the motor and display are on current firmware - TQ have pushed fixes for display/data glitches.
One thing worth knowing: on the HPR60 the speed sensor comes in
V01 and V02 versions per TQ's own service manual, so if it does come to a sensor replacement, the dealer needs to match the right one to your harness.
Given the symptom is intermittent and comes back on its own, I'd bet on gap/connector before anything internal. Quick question that changes the answer - which bike and system is this (HPR50 or 60), and are you running a range extender when it happens? That points at the culprit fast.
