TQ HPR50 to HPR60 upgrade on a Fuel ex-e: Is it worth it?

just for your info : Unbekannt Motor TQ HPR60 350W Drive Unit Black Set - Allgäu Bike Sports
Well done, @Cyranox. You found one. Allgäu Bike Sports in Germany have it listed at €1,749.99, which is... considerably more than the €1,049 aftermarket price I've been quoting and quite a lot more than your Bikebling option at $910 USD. So as a European source it exists, but the pricing makes the US import look attractive again even with Belgian customs.

Worth noting that German bike shops often have room to negotiate, especially on a single high-value unit. A phone call to Allgäu might get you a better figure than the website price suggests. It's also worth checking whether they'd ship to Belgium directly, which sidesteps any US import uncertainty entirely and keeps you within EU VAT rules (no additional customs, just whatever VAT they apply at point of sale).

If you find other European retailers, the comparison is simple: anything under ~€1,126 beats the worst-case Bikebling scenario. Allgäu at €1,749.99 doesn't clear that bar, but it's at least a concrete option if the import route falls through.

anyway, I've already placed an order with Bike Bling, and it should arrive by the end of March
I let you know what will be the end price all included

Solid move. Bikebling at $910 USD was always the sensible call once you'd exhausted the European options, and waiting until end of March for delivery is perfectly reasonable.

Do report back on the final landed cost once Belgian customs have had their say. It'll be genuinely useful data for the next person who goes looking for an HPR60 in Europe and ends up in this same rabbit hole.

Hi Cyranox! Could you please share your experience? Did you receive your motor? What was the final price with taxes and fees? Have you manage to install it? By your self on in some shop?

Everybody,
I receive the HPR60 yesterday, I must say the experience with BikeBling was perfect ! I totally pay 1140 € all in

BUT !!!
I immediately do the job and ... 5401 DRV CONN !!!
I have this message on the display and the dealer tool refuse to connect, what now ?
After I put the HPR50 back and everything is OK like before
Any idée ? How do I resolve this ? Before speaking warranty or else, let's try technical solution

You may have already found the error code description, but in case you haven’t yet:

Does your update tool connect to the HPR50 and perform updates ok?

yes I do see it already and try it all ...
Great part of those solutions, just not point 5, works again with the old HPR50 (include the display, because I order also the V04, the error 5401 message do not appear, but it turn off after 10 sec, and also works properly again with the 50)
I suppose there is a reason and that I can resolve it simply, I don't want to let it travel 9OOO km the other way back

You get this error if you try to use a brand new 'unactivated' motor.

You need to use the dealer service tool to activate the motor, when you connect the dealer service tool to the new motor for the first time, it should ask you to enter the serial number of the bike that the motor is being fitted to, it will then configure the motor and this error should go away

But you say the dealer service tool is not doing this, so I don't know what's going on. Could the motor already have been activated by the shop that sold it to you?

indeed the dongle do not connect to the new motor (!?)
you are sure this is exactly the message that's appears when the motor is inactivated ?

Yep, I bought a new hpr60 motor to replace the broken hpr50 in my trek fuel exe and I initially just fitted the motor and tried to ride it without first plugging the dealer service tool in (I wanted to see if it would let me have 350w max power) , and it threw this error. Then I plugged the dealer service tool in, went through the activation process where I enter the serial number and it all started working fine.

I try with an other PC, the one I use exclusively for the dongle is very old and slow, I have some doubts about the correct working, but other side you give me an excellent clue, hopefully this is the good way, already thx

So, at last I think I made a good operation.
The DST has finally detected the new motor and has correctly activated the HPR60; now all that’s left is to put everything back together and see if it was all worth it
A big thank you for your help, and a special thanks to Mteam who helped me with the final push

Glad to be of assistance, good luck with the bike

bof, bof, bof at first sight (2 km) it is not that spectacular ...
Can you elaborate? I was about to checkout with the HPR60 in cart lol.

I will say I read in a Facebook feed somewhere that the battery need to be fully drained and fully charged (not sure which order, probably both to be safe) so the new motor can learn the correct rate to drain it. Following that and a full reset of any custom assist levels you tuned (you can of course change it right back to your preferences), it should start to behave as intended.

First ride, a bit risky with the club (first ride with a new motor and with everyone else; if something goes wrong, they'll have a good laugh...).
69.46 km, 479 m of elevation gain, average speed of 28.22 km/h ... 2% battery left (two, deux, twee, due, dos !!!).
Performance-wise, I don't really know, I think it was better, but riding in a group, I can't really tell.
I'll do a solo ride this week; that will give me a better analysis.

if you ask me if I do it again, the answer is yes, because these are things that I do, but if you ask me if it's worth it, I answer: "I don't know", it's not a spectacular upgrade anyway.
One of the things I was hoping for was autonomy, my ride yesterday taught me nothing, I don't see any difference, disappointed for this

I'm sorry, but that was a bit of word salad. I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say. And what do you mean by autonomy in this context?

I found that for the first couple of rides on the hpr60 my range (or autonomy as you put it) was about the same as the hpr50. But after that the range was approx 15% increased.

I think if you go back to the beginning of this thread (or maybe there was another) you'll see my posts describing what I found.

I had read your post before, and also this discussion thread helped convince me to do the swap; I'm just sharing my first impressions and I believe things go better in the near future
