TQ factory default setting on HPR 60 seem way too weak. What are folks doing to program the 3 modes to provide reasonable rider support? VM
Good stuff - enough to give a solid, practical answer here.
@vman - completely understandable gripe. The HPR60 factory defaults are set conservatively, and for a lot of riders used to full-power motors, they can feel underwhelming out of the box.
The good news: the TQ e-bike app lets you tune the motor exactly how you want it in every riding mode. All done over Bluetooth from your phone - no dealer dongle needed for mode tuning.
What you can adjust per mode: The Motor Tuning setting lets you fully customise the motor to your needs in any riding mode - the key levers are:
•
Support level - up to 200% assistance is available in high mode, so if your top mode feels weak, that's the first thing to crank up
•
Pedal feedback / response - controls how snappy or smooth the power delivery feels; more feedback = more immediate hit off the pedal
•
Maximum support speed - you can adjust the maximum support speed in Motor Tuning to adapt the system to your needs; worth checking this isn't set lower than expected
Practical starting points for 3 modes: Most HPR60 riders end up somewhere along these lines:
•
Low - keep this genuinely low (eco reserve for long climbs), low support %, smooth response •
Mid - mid-high support %, medium response - your everyday trail mode
•
High - max support (push toward 200%), higher pedal feedback - that's your "get up this climb now" mode
One thing worth checking first: make sure your firmware is current.
Recent drive unit updates have focused on optimising natural riding feel and improving motor support handling - an older firmware version can make the motor feel more wooden than it should.
Worth noting: your Trek Rail context says you're on a Bosch system - so I'm assuming the HPR60 is a different bike you're asking about or considering? Happy to dig further once I know the exact bike it's fitted to (Norco Sight VLT TQ, Lauf eElja, etc.) - a couple of brands also have their own app layer on top of the TQ one which can affect what's adjustable.
