Hi everyone,
I’d like to invite riders and supporters from this community — especially those living in or traveling through northern Germany — to support a regional petition aimed at securing long‑term, legal, and nature‑friendly mountain bike trails in the Deister near Hannover.

What the Petition Calls For

The Deister currently has three official MTB pilot trails created to channel riding activity responsibly. These are volunteer‑maintained and were designed with local authorities — yet the Region Hannover now labels them as “not nature‑compatible”, contradicting its own ecological studies.
The permits expire December 31, 2025, and without an updated concept, unmanaged riding and user conflicts could increase.
The petition urges the state parliament to
  • develop a realistic long‑term trail concept,
  • keep existing trails open during planning,
  • rely on independent ecological assessments,
  • recognize MTB as an established recreation form.

Local Highlight: Deister = Home of Nicolai Bikes

The Deister region is also part of the cultural and riding landscape surrounding Nicolai Bikes — a renowned German MTB manufacturer hand‑building frames in Niedersachsen near Hannover (Lübbrechtsen / Mehle region).
Supporting sustainable, legal trails here means supporting the very environment that shapes this iconic local brand.

If you’d like to help keep MTB access legal, safe, and nature‑friendly, you can sign the petition here:

Thanks a lot — every signature really counts!
