Stolen from my garage, cut through the hasp. Gutted doesn't cover it but hopefully the insurance will pay out.

The 21 XL Mondy was heavily upgraded (had it just how I wanted..... )

And they took my 2015 Defy frameset for good measure

I'm with Avivaplus who have confirmed it should be fully covered, some specialist 3rd party handles the claim apparently. The Giant is fairly straightforward as I have receipts for it, The Mondy has had bits bought from here, there and everywhere, new, secondhand, online, ebay, LBS etc. Anyone know how much of a battle I'm likely to face and how long these things take to settle?

I just want to know how much I'll get and how long so I know how long it is before I can ride again! Weather so nice right now too....

I'm not having much luck lately. My boy broke his wrist on Thursday, yesterday I went to BPW on a borrowed bike from a mate. Puncture on the way home, recovered from Wales on a series of low loaders. Left home at 6am yesterday, got in after 4 this morning....

Still, mustn't grumble! 😕😭😅
 
Worthing too. Long shot but I'll keep an eye out on the downs, it's a distinctive enough bike.
 
Sorry to hear that dude, scum bags will follow people home if they see a nice bike. Had the same happen to me, now keep my bike under the stairs in the house. Im over in Angmering way. Will keep an eye out too! Good luck with the insurance.
 
That Defy looks to be a very distinctive colour. How rare is that, everything being the same shade of purple/lilac/whatever?

With professional thieves you can generally expect a return visit for the replacement bikes or other valuables, so it's time for a security upgrade.
 
Whilst I can't resist checking FB marketplace and ebay I've resigned myself to the bikes being gone, it's in the hands of the insurance company now. I'm still pissed off, gutted and angry at the low life pricks but I'm trying to think about the replacements instead.

Security upgrade is underway and will be comprehensive!

I can't remember who my insurer was at the time but when my Trance got nicked the only original part on it was the frame. The insurers were really good though (it was also handled by a bike specialist 3rd party), I listed all the parts I had bought and how much they cost. We knew it couldn't be replaced like for like but they basically went on a combination of the total cost I had spent Vs what a similar spec bike would cost to purchase new. What we agreed on was very amicable and I was super happy. I think it was around £1,500 which was amazing given I very much doubt I could have got that much had I sold it 'as is'. I ended up buying a mint 2 year old Trance X4 which to be fair was better than my old one in every way.
 
Pal of mine in Durrington got done in a targeted theft last year. We think it was either Strava giving away his location or someone from the organised shop rides he used to go on clocking his bikes. He lost a Levo SL & an Epic. About £13k at retail.

The cops took a week to issue a crime number. South downs bikes were great, when the Levo was turned on, it logged its location with Specialized which they passed on to the police who weren't interested. Bike theft is way down the priority list, so keep the insurance up to date.
 
I have a number of Strava privacy zones set up, don't do shop rides, ride from the house 95% of the time etc. Live on a quiet road but about a month back I pulled up from a ride just as a proper pair of roadmen walked past and eyeballed the Mondy and the house. I had a bad feeling then but like a fool didn't upgrade the security. Whoever it was I don't doubt they'll be back. All locks upgraded, nice bikes will be in an Asgard and a Ring camera went up yesterday.

Sussex Police not interested at all, had to chase them for a crime number. Had a letter yesterday to say that "after careful consideration" they can't be arsed and have clised the case. Glad I pay my taxes like a good boy.... 🙄

Dealing with SBS who seem to have a good rep. Aviva confirmed everything is covered under unlimited contents and neither have asked for any evidence of the break in which I find a bit bizzare but hoping it means it will get settled a but quicker. Dread to think what the renewal will be though!

Yeah I'm pretty careful about this, my road is fairly quiet too so I'm able to carry on riding if I see anyone walking around the vicinity of my house when I get near. Seems a bit anal but I'd rather add a couple of minutes to my ride and go around the block than anyone see me go down my side alley. I don't hang about when I leave either. I even turn the car around (we usually park nose-in on the drive) if I'm loading the bike in the back so anyone passing is less likely to see me. You can imagine it horrifies me when I see people washing their bikes on stands out the front of their house...may as well put a sign up saying 'nick me later'.
 
I have an air tag hidden on my bike. Obviously won’t stop it being nicked but hopefully help me find and beat the living crap out of the retard that took it.

Yeah, I do the same but this time I was chatting to a mate and not paying attention, by the time I realised it was too late.
 
Real shame that. Not only are you dealing with the loss itself, but knowing someone has broken in to your home/garage etc is terribly unsettling. And the fact that the cops have little to zero interest given they know the bikes are almost impossible to recover rubs salt into the wound. With cars being stolen and then on shipping containers within 24 hours, there’s zero chance of recovering bikes. Hope the insurance comes through for you. Storing mine under the stairs is the only way forward for me. And dismantling the bike and putting in the boot with tinted windows adds some comfort when I head out
