Hi all, I’m trying to mount a new Fox 38 fork on my Stilus v2, but I can’t fit the fork using the original headset that came with the bike.
In particular: the headset lower crown race once mounted on the Fox 38, seems to be “changed” and the original lower bearing doesn’t fit anymore! It’s like 2mm raised from the crown race…like if the crown race got a little bit bigger?!!??

Has anyone already mounted a Fox 38 on Stilus v2? Which headset did you use? Did you change the original crown race?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Late reply, I know, but I don't look into the forum very often. So, I hope the issue is already solved, but if not, then maybe the below info will be helpful.

First, are you trying to re-use the original FSA crown race from the old fork? Or are you checking the bearing fit on some other crown race? The original crown race (an the bearing inner race) is 36 deg, so it will not fit if mounted on a different crown race (i.e. more common 45 deg).

Second, the lower bearing will not sit flush with the crown race, it should only touch the crown race with that angled surface of the inner race. The small gap is a normal thing. The bearing cup is deeper than the bearing itself, so it will compensate and after fitting everything the gap will not be visible. The only gap you should see will be the gap between the surface of the crown (outside from the crown race) to a lower bearing cup in the frame and it should be equal to the thickness of the base of the crown race.

Thanks for your reply.
I was trying to re use the original crown race and bearing....but I guess while disassembling the crown race from the old fork I probably used to much force. The crown race was maybe deformed that's why I had a 2mm gap between the new fork and the crown race. I ordered a new headset and now everything is ok. ;)
