sram gx axs upgrade kit on a Giant Trance E+

Hello, has anyone looked at fitting a sram gx axs upgrade kit so the rear derailleur works wirelessly?

Interested to learn if this would be a good addon..

Hi, yup, got on on my 2021 trance and just fitted another to a Haibike Lyke with shimano drive train. Easy to fit and setup, highly recommended in my view 👍
 
Hi, just to confirm this will work with
Shimano Deore XT cassette and
Rear Derailleur?

Hi Donald, it will work on a 12s deore cassette, the derailleur is replaced with the Gx axs one in the kit
 
Followed this guys video when I first did it. I’ve since used it on xt, xtr and deore cassettes. I’ve put an xx1 axs mech on my new bike recently, so can say that also works. Personally I’ve on used shimano chains, but there’s no reason why your 12 kmc wouldn’t work.

Follow the steps in the vid and you’ll be golden, and remember to set your B gap at your sag point on the shock. I measured mine (41mm) as per the vid, didn’t use any of the kit tools

Yes, same as everyone has said above, and when you fine tune with the shifter it's even better!😊👍
 
Mine did not even last two full seasons, parallelogram was loose and derailleur was sometimes shifting in a weird manner or doing ghost shifts.

First gen AXS Eagle derailleurs are also very loud when riding enduro, DH or rough tracks as the body of the derailleur is flopping around.

However when it was working properly it was really nice to use other than the loud noises.
 
Just picked up a new Teance E+ 3 that I’m thinking of doing this mod to. LBS says they can do it as discussed in this thread & preserving many components. But, they say that it’s not possible to power the SRAM components directly from the Trance’s battery. Is this correct?

Hi, yes your LBS is correct, use the battery supplied with the sram kit. Its is technically possible to have it powered by the bike if your an electrical engineer or trained by nasa, but i would strongly advised messing about with your bikes electrics, just dont do it. The battery is simple and convenient, enjoy, one of the best upgrades you can do.

The AXS system isn't so much of a "mod" as it is just bringing the bike up to 2024 standards. Cable-operated derailleurs are becoming more passé with every passing day. It's like the wheel size thing. You can run 27.5" wheels and a cable-operated derailleur and be just fine, but the whole world is running 29" and AXS for a reason.

Powering the derailleur from your bike's battery is certainly possible. I briefly considered it because in my profession I made diverse systems work together and it seemed easy. But then I started thinking about the vulnerability of the exposed wire, and how well the AXS system works as it comes from the factory. My conclusion is that there is no benefit and potential risks from modifying the system.

Summary: If you can afford it, get it. It won't make you a better rider, but you'll be a happier rider.

No doubt. :). The reason I was asking about hardwiring was I had test-ridden a Trek Rail 8 that came with stock AXS, and noticed that it only worked if the drive controller was turned on. That bike uses Bosch vs the Giant’s Yamaha; it may be easier/cleaner to power the derailleur directly from the bike with Bosch
