Levo Gen 4 Specialized Gen 4 Levo - Official Thread

Ride an Amflow and ride a Levo S-Works gen 4 and you will feel the difference, I have both and the Levo rides that much better….
My levo S Works Gen 3 4k miles over 3 years had better ride quality than my Amflow it was like an Armchair, in comparison. But the Amflow feels so much more alive and agile. The Amflow did take a fair bit of setting up front and rear shocks and PSIs.

Yea - the Amflow is a cool concept. Is not in my evoked set, although I have never ridden one. Important criteria for me is a planted bike with a plush but still poppy enough rear end - the bike should be still in the trail domain, but capable of technical terrain like Finale Ligure or Lage Garda, for example.

I think the Fox Genie shock is a good move from Specialized together with the long-term proofed Horst Link suspension. Improved the Levo SL 2025 in my opinion by a good amount.

@Lexle How would you describe the riding feel compared too the Amflow regarding the rear suspension. Do you double down on the Amflow tests, that the rear suspension/frame has limits (with your insides comparing to the Levo/Genie concept)?
Light years. In performance. The Genie is exactly what you want. I installed a Push SV8 (excellent shock!!) on the Amflow, which increased the performance a lot , but still miles away from from the Levo. The amflow feels really limited to AM …

Did we establish which tyres are being fitted in the UK?
A friend of mine has just been to purchase the bike but has come away disappointed with tyre clearance!
I was thinking if it’s actually fitted with a 2.5” he could maybe size down to a 2.3”?
My Spesh rep said the first batches of bikes will come with 2.3" tyres and then these will be changed to larger tyres. Not sure I believe that though as the Gen 3's are still listed at 2.3" tyres.

Most people I know swap them out anyway for 2.6" Argotal front and 2.6" Kryptotal Enduro Soft Rear which are actually slightly lighter than the 2.3" Gravity tyres that the G4 comes with, and are better suited for our local conditions.

So the Gen 4 and the Amflow differ quite a bit. Amflow would be a good choice for my curvy home trails here in Western Germany. New Levo supporting with more rear suspension capabilities on fast technical downhill sections like in the Alps (flexible Gen 4 setup). In the end two capable bikes with intersection in trail riding.

There is new butcher tire in 2.4 I’m assuming it will change to that

Combine the Amflow hardware with a good geo and Frame, you will have a winner. Levo Gen 4 is simply to heavy for what it is...
I’ve found the Amflow to be a brilliant trail bike……haven’t suffered from any of the flex that some reviewers have mentioned but I did change my wheels for decent DT Swiss carbons.
It’s better than the Trek Rail or SC Heckler I had before it by some margin.

I do wonder though how much better the Forbidden or the Unno would be.

Have to say also, the Genie shock on the Gen4 not only looks good, the idea behind it makes so much sense and is probably a large contributor to the ‘magic’ of the Gen4!

Hopefully Fox will launch a version for retail.

I’m sure I read somewhere that there is an exclusivity for two or three years since it was designed by specialized

On my Fav local trail 16.32 Miles, the time on the Amflow is 56.03 Mins, On the S Works Gen 3 it was 1.15.55. I agree the S works was more comfortable, but the lighter Amflow was much more agile and controllable as well as faster.

How are folks declaring the Gen 4 a ‘sales flop’ when it’s not even been on sale a week, and even then in the priciest versions?

Perhaps we should wait both for the ‘cooking’ versions to be released and for the reliability stats on the oft talked about competitors?

We hear a lot about Specialized Gen 3 motor failures, but it has sold in huge numbers and I suspect only Specialized know the data.

Lots of people saying why the Gen 4 wouldn’t work for them, fair enough, doesn’t mean it’s a bad e-bike.

I love the look of the Unno, but the lack of tyre clearance would mean a frustrating riding experience on the mud around here, and after sales is an unknown which isn’t the case with the Specialized.

It’s fantastic that we have so many great EMTBs to choose from nowadays, I suspect none of them are truly bad.

Well, if true, that maybe the excuse I need to try a coil shock……as that is what the Genie is trying to mimic, it should be a good solution.

There's no range extender for the avinox system, right? Also for the 800wh cx g5 bikes, there's not many good looking ones apart from the Crestline.

It’s not like this new gen 4 bike has not been known about for some time. On previous S works Levos when dips have been placed they are converted into orders very soon when the bike is launched. I am not surprised that the store I use has only received one confirmed order so far, apart from myself and i am a bIg levo Fan have had 7 E bikes incl 5 S works. I know to another 5 who based on its looks etc have so far declined to place an order. Point taken on the lower spec bikes.......

There is one on the way. According to Amflow, it’s just going through final checks.
Though I would guess, it’s somewhat of an afterthought so maybe won’t be as well integrated as the Levo Gen4 RE.

But is it as good as a Genie?
That is the question.

I’ve not ridden the G4 with the Genie, hopefully Ard Rock I can demo one but between the coil and my old float X performance it’s chalk n cheese on the ruff stuff

I went from an Ohlins coil on my G3 to a Genie and I thought the Genie felt similar to the coil but I could run it plusher (more sag) and still have a really good ramp up for heavy hits. If you want a more lively feel than the coil you can up the air pressure on the Genie, it's like the best of both depending how you set it.

Does the genie fit the G3? I thought the side arm would get away.

Wouldn't say that, I for my part am happy with the Orbea Wild M10, it's more for Enduro and than there is also the Merida which is top of the line when it gets really gnarly and rough. The Orbea ist fantastic in the Mountains, enough travel and comfortable at the same time!

The ride quality difference between the levo and the amflow most likely comes down to weight and the genie shock. A heavier bike can feel more planted/stable, even with worse suspension components.

Genie is basically a float x with a fancy air chamber design and specialized probably spent more resources on the overall kinematics, tuning the shock etc.

I wonder why they kept the 150mm travel. Maybe to keep a really low bb option?

Overall with today's variety of really good mtb shocks almost all rear ends should be able to be tuned to the riders liking if the designers didn't fuck it up completely.

I just watched the video of VELOMTION MAGAZINE, a long long video but really really interesting!!!

I have a question for those who already have their bike:

Is that possible to set the SHUTTLE differently for EACH mode?

For exemple if i ONLY want 100% shuttle inTurbo and 0% shuttle for the other modes

With the Gen3 it is not possible....if you set 100% shuttle, you have 100% in all the modes....

Yeah I meant big battery ones. Plenty of nice cx gen5 options with 600-750wh batteries but not 8xx

as I remember it is not possible to set differently
