Hello all!
Just wanted to introduce myself

My wife has been nudging me about e-bikes for a couple years. I was not even remotely interested or open to discussing it. Just thought it meant I was accepting getting older seemed like cheating.
I’m in Minnesota BTW we usually ride Cuyuna in Crosby. We started chatting with another rider about his emtb. (They ganged up on me) He had many points I couldn’t argue with.
Recently retired 59 and have been researching EMTB’s for a little assistance on the uphills to keep my heart rate in a safer zone and increase my distance.
Been riding since BMX in the late 70’s
Mountain biking until I got the fat bike bug about 15 years ago. Still have a Rockhopper, MoonLander, Fatboy and a Sandman.

Definitely a lot to learn but I’m looking forward to it!

Yeah there are certainly some misconceptions out there. Particularly by dudes not riding e bikes.

Sure you can lazy use motor assistance to put in .minimal effort. Or you can us it to get more laps and go faster and use similar effort... al be it distributed differently during the ride.

My wife and I are 55 and 52 and totally enjoy our analog bikes. When they ran a sale on the Trek Rail Gen 2 we grabbed a couple up. We tend to run on ECO most of the time and push hard enough the get a good workout. The higher levels are nice to have to travel from park to park or have an extra boost to get up something we normally would not do.

I appreciate the input.
I’ve been looking at the Trek and Specialized online but I have two local shops nearby.
One sells Trek and the other Specialized.
Just looking at all the different models is exhausting. Not super concerned about price points but a good deal is always nice.

Gave up riding motorcycles so a couple emtb’s is nothing compared to the money wasted on motorcycles I hardly rode over the years.

The old Purion system appealed to us as they can be easily derestricted without hassle. The speedometer reads correct, motor lock, and true unlimited speed without throwing a code is possible. The Rail 7's we bought are excellent bikes for the sale price. Mine even came with upgraded SLX brake levers, calipers and an SLX cassette. We are more than happy.
