Changing the brakes on the canyon strive on to the Shimano xt 4 pots from the db8 stock brakes and face the same annoying Shimano component compatibility issues. The xt lever clamps have a much smaller slot in the clamp and just like the front brake side needing a shifter mount adapter I'm now facing the exact same issue on the Shimano lever mounted (left side) mounting to the Shimano dropper post EV bracket and for the life of me I can't find a clear answer on what part will mate the two together

Do you mean the "i-spec" clamps? They allow for two Shimano fittings to be mounted to one handle bar clamp. You have to get the correct one though, as there are several iterations. Sram do it better with their "Matchmaker" clamps. They are a design classic and must have patented it before Shimano could come up with it.

Exactly that Steve I think I have found the right one but waiting on a email to confirm

@diatch. I see (or think I do) that you have the brake lever clamp nearest to the bars and then shifter after the brake.
I don't do that.
Instead, I move the shifter clamp next to the grip and the brake clamp inboard of that. Then the end of the brake lever is perfectly in line with my index finger and the much shorter shifter levers are easily reachable with my fingers and thumb without having to let go of the grip.
I have found this to be a very good position for me. I also set up my grandkids bikes like this and they get on just fine with it.

Everywhere I go, every bike I find is set up with the brake lever mounted close to the grips. I can't understand why when the lever is then positioned in front of the grip such that your index finger is close to the lever body. Equally, this means that the short gear shifter levers are out of reach without letting go of the grip.

It may seem a bit of a faff when you first get a new bike (or a hire bike) to set up, but it really doesn't take long.

I don't need i-spec clamps.

Something with more adjustments would certainly be a better solution I'm a two finger brake man from Motocross days so I like the lever to be up to the grip if the slot in the lever clamp had the longer slot in you could make it work but I never really liked the position of the dropper as fitted by canyon

Unless I'm misunderstanding something you shouldn't need an adaptor.

The brake levers and dropper lever are both I-spec EV.

The dropper lever bolts onto the brake lever with a 3mm hex screw.

It's the same setup that I have albeit my levers are M6100.

Unless you're missing the threaded square insert thingy from the brake lever clamp, it should just bolt together.

The square adapter bit is exactly what I was missing 😁 all sorted now but tbh it should come with the Shimano brake kit
