solutions for shimano E914 error code
@tommy9s - E914 on Shimano STEPS is a communication error between system components. The motor, battery, display and speed sensor all talk to each other on a shared network, and E914 means something in that chain isn't responding or is sending garbage.
Work through these in order:
1. Check all connectors
• Unplug and firmly reseat every Shimano connector on the bike - motor, display, junction boxes, speed sensor • Look for bent pins, corrosion, or mud packed into the sockets
• A slightly loose junction box connector is the most common culprit
2. Speed sensor
• Check the magnet is properly seated on the spoke and facing the sensor correctly • Make sure the sensor itself hasn't shifted position - it needs to be within a few mm of the magnet
• A missing or misaligned magnet can trigger communication errors, not just speed-related codes
3. E-Tube Project app
• Connect via Bluetooth (battery above about 30% before you try) • Go to
Maintenance → Error Information - it'll show the full error log, which might give you a more specific code alongside E914 to narrow down which component is misbehaving
4. If none of that clears it You're at dealer territory. A Shimano-authorised workshop with the SM-PCE02 PC interface tool can run a proper wired diagnostic and identify exactly which component dropped off the network - something Bluetooth alone can't always catch.
What motor are you running on the Pivot? That might narrow things down further.
