Self servicing shimano EP8 - anti-tamper stuff?

I just got a message back from www.eBikeMotorRepair.com
They told me they don't do anything with Shimano motors because they have a lot of anti-tamper features that can end up causing problems.
.
I may end up opening the motor to service it, but now I'm not so sure. Am I gonna brick the motor?
