Looking at a second hand 2020 Rail 5 at the weekend 400miles, original drive train was removed at purchase and has been put back on so has circa 100miles on it, motor upgraded to the 85nm and regular serviced.

Any recommendations what to look at when viewing? seems to be good condition, id prefer to have shimano gearing and brakes kind of out of the loop of what these emtbs are actually worth when approaching end of warranty, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure that the seller is the original owner, ask for purchase receipt. Obviously look for damage, dents/scratches, all bearings should be ok, but feel for notchy headset, twist the handlebars lock to lock and check for grinding. Look at the chain and cassette, these could be worn out after 400 miles so ensure it changes gear smoothly. Make sure that the bike comes with the charger, manuals, keys. if the keys are lost it’s a problem. You’ll need the original purchase receipt or the key reference to get new ones. Make sure that tyres are in reasonable condition, they should be really quite good unless the owners like to skid into bends. Also hold the bike with the handle bar and put your foot on the pedal apply pressure to the bike perpendicular, this will identify creaks in the linkages etc. apart from that I’m sure it’ll be fine.

400 miles is very low mileage, so everything should be in excellent order. If you're happy with the price I would go for it. Motor/battery and suspension are the big ticket items, you want these to be in good condition, brakes/drivetrain/bearings all wear out over time so are consumable items really, and you can upgrade these as you go, but on a bike with just 400 miles there should be nothing to worry about.
