Answered Seat post grease? Which type

What’s the best grease for a standard seat post?
I’m assuming you need to put something on it or it would get badly scratched when removing / adjusting.
But would the wrong type of grease make it constantly slip?
I sometimes use dry lube but is this a bad idea?

Normal Teflon or Lithium Grease will be fine.

Unless Carbon then use a specific carbon grease.

Correctly clamped it wont slip. And its more to stop it seizing up.

Also. Your frame shouldn't badly scratch your seatpost unless the seat tube is poorly reamed/finished.

I just use the cheap as chips Decathlon stuff on the fixed portion of my seatposts, seems to do the job...

TIL I've only fiddle with cheap ass seat posts. Makes sense really.

If you have a dropper seatpost and/or a carbon fibre frame, then I would use the specific stuff for carbon fibre components. The reason is that you can use less clamping force. This will compress the dropper seatpost less. This is important because inside that dropper post is a lot of high precision components that don't like being compressed. Too much compression contributes to premature failure.
