I couldn't care less about the downtube. The real problem is the lack of an authorized Class 3 mode; and the power deficit.
In regard to Bosch, I couldn’t care about the power deficit. I do care about the lack of class 3 mode and slim down tube would be nice but not s deal breaker

All these pictures are making me jealous. Can't wait to get there tomorrow and check out all the rides. Just seeing that picture of the Whyte makes me want it even more. Wish someone would start importing them to the US.

Is this just parked here in a fleeting moment or will it be on display here for thwhole event? I guess the Conti's give it away.
it’s been there for the past few days and there are Atherton folks around to answer questions and inquiries.

New from Outbound Lighting directly connected to your eBike called eEVO which is powered by your ebike battery/electronics. It is newly redesigned to meet current e-bike technology will have different versions for Bosch, Avinox, etc. coming later this year. Lumens will vary and depend on bike electronics.

Avinox
Nice info 👍
Gear Hub
RX600 compatibility
RX400(?) down the line
From the initial M2S info, I had gotten the impression that the RS600 removable battery is their 600Wh range extender that you're calling the RX600. Do you know if the RE is actually a different battery that they're designating with the RX moniker, or are they maybe just using a different part number because it comes with a cable kit?

On a related note, I'm just realizing that if their REs are the RS batteries, or even if they just use the same plug, then anyone with a bike with an internal battery (FS and FP series) will need a 2nd charger, since they use round vs. square connectors.

I just saw on the Vital website that Intradrive is displaying a bike with their motor/gearbox at the SOC, which was a really nice surprise, with them saying that they're planning for Q4 production. I am really rooting for those guys, and hope they can get their product on the market, as it seems a lot more suitable to performance eMTBs than the Pinion. If available aftermarket, it also seems like it could be a great way to breath new life into Shimano motor bikes: Client Challenge

Still do not understand the propain proposition honestly ... why 160mm rear? Seriously ... I like the fact it is an alloy but man so disappointing for the Ekano. Unless its price it completely miss the market.

can anyone stop at the sram booth and grill them on why there is a new avinox connector and they failed on making the axs power cable available at launch at their distributors!?
Talked to a few SRAM folks and most didn’t know a different cable even existed. Finally tracked down the real answer, it was that Avinox bought them all and there is no stock currently. 😔

I had a blast at Sea Otter today. Talked a lot with the guys at Drip E Bikes. Rode the Black Medium with the DVO suspension and man, that bike is sweet!!! I'll be calling and placing an order on a custom build next week. Really impressed with them. I liked the Commencal as well, but not being able to ride it first kinda outs it. The Atherton E bike was sick too. Bummed the Whyte wasn't being shown, but can't get it in the US anyway so, whatever. Met Drew from The Loam Wolf, he was a cool guy, also got to meet Gee Atherton and ride his personal bike.

That's going to be a problem for those who are buying frames, or base model Avinox powered EMTBs with mechanical derailleurs, and then people expecting to be able to fit SRAM AXS Transmission.

Interestingly. I was wondering why Dream Build fitted a battery to their Dream Build Teewing Flux AXS Transmission. Clearly, even they cannot get a cable.

Some Teewing options from Teewing | Drip e-Bikes

Great prices including some awesome deals that include Berd wheels!

Check ‘em out if you can and you can demo them!
Bought one here in Oz. Mid May delivery. Interesting that the US is so far ahead of Australia with the Teewing, when we were so far ahead with the Amflow.

Damm I wish we had a Drip e-Bikes here in Australia. The delivery customisation is fantastic.

Yeah, I totally missed this one until the day of. I was to see them there, but their presence was for us potential customers and onlookers. There purpose there was fully B2B. They have a job to do to generate interest on their motor with bike makers - and what I felt was a slight hint of desperation if things don't get moving soon. It takes a lot of capital to not only build a good MGU, but all the battery and control system tech as well. Their original idea of making the motor mount Shimano compatible (hence constraining the the size of the MGU, which is great IMO), doesn't mean much if you can't integrate into Shimano's battery system, not to mention that Shimano inexplicably gave up the ghost in the emtb motor race long ago. Maybe they can acquire this startup and get back in. Thus this motor must rest on its own merits and I'm all in for every player generating interest in the MGU space.

Rode the Yeti SB160E kitted with the new XTR wireless and Fox Live Valve with Cam and Tyler McCaul and Amy Morrison. Fun ride!
IMG_4865.webp

Tyler and Amy will be at TDS next week if folks want to see them rip next week!

IMG_4870.webp

Marin Riftzone EL 2 demos were also available with a Bosch Motor didn’t see any XLRs for demo.

Commencal Ebikes looked nice! As many said they should have demos. Maybe next year. The Meta Power SX in Fox and RockShox flavors

Forestal had new Enduro Avinox M2S bike they were carting around called the E Siryon V2 in a diode build with 170/170 Podium fork, I9 hubs, and more for around 9.6k Euros and 7.5k lower spec late summer this year in Europe as well in the US via Worldwide Cyclery will be around end of October.
IMG_4873.webp

Canyon Strive:ON had demos that were fun and powerful made for ebike racing with the powerful Bosch Performance line CX motor. Also had a prototype bike on display coming soon…
IMG_4872.webp

Some Non-E-bike pix that may make onto e-bikes in the future
IMG_4807.webp

Besides a new e-bike Ari also had an 32 inch bike.
IMG_4795.webp

IMG_4794.webp

Neuhaus metalworks had a nice 32 inch bike on some large Vittoria Peyotes a very fast XC tire that came about a year or two ago in a large size.
IMG_4824.webp

Telepathy bikes preorders on their High Pivot Zero axle growth bikes with some cool idlers. Felt different when jumping in place and going over obstacles due to the parallel axle path felt so different with little to no G-out was felt in the brief ride around their booth and off of “approved” obstacles they said they may be sold out by the end of Sea Otter!
IMG_4823.webp

That idler they have should be on every bike and they drew lots of interest from many big and independent bike manufacturers.
IMG_4831.webp

Cool new Revel bike with an unannounced model - more to come soon , prototype 32 inch titanium bike - when asked they aren’t sure on 32 yet but are experimenting, some cool new suspension items from Intend was in their booth as well.
IMG_4820.webp

They also met with some companies to discuss some potential future endeavors. Adam just smiled when asked.

Some other cool tech- Hotbars heated handlebars not wired for e-bikes yet… but currently had a removable rechargeable battery for those that ride in cold temperatures.

Stablead had some prototype upgradable suspension (inverted forks & air/coil shocks with drop in electronic upgrades coming in the future), pedals, chainrings, brakes, and cranks were on display on a green Amflow. Slow rollout of products in 3-4 months… definitely worth checking out.

With only one day at the event, I crammed in 6 bike demos. Some takes with links, as reported in ride sequence:

1776666393447.webp
  1. Teewing Flux: Prettier in person and possibly the most svelte long travel Avinox bike out there. The bike was a medium, MX setup, with bird wheels, coil shock and looked the part and will be delivered to a new owner who took a demo discount. First time on the M2S - that motor was so good that it took me out of the experience of evaluating the bike on its own terms. The fork and shock setup were firm for my weight and liking, with a spring that can only be backed out so far, and as such I was not able to get the bike through its travel on test. But importantly, the bike did not misbehave on the gravelly and silty MTB test track despite the setup deficit. The idler looked robust and large, and most importantly it was quiet, enough that I forgot about it for most of the ride. I came away thinking that this bike is an incredible deal with only the E-Dred as competitor in the long travel HP M2S space.

  2. Rivian/ALSO TM-B: This bike was a high-tech blast! Ostensibly an urban bike rather than an EMTB, but that did not stop me from slamming this bike on the same MTB test track. With its mini- Fox Podium fork, 180NM of torque, ABS braking, stepless transmission, I blew past riders, even some some test riders on Avinox bikes! There’s too much to post here about it so I’ll provide a link later to go into the details [Edit: here is the detail TMB-B ride review]. At a mere $4500, this bike has got me thinking.
  3. Yeti LTE: Bosch Gen 5, medium, middle progressive setting, Sixfinity suspension. This was my first Gen. 5 test, as my current bike has a Gen. 4 race. Quieter on both uphills and downhills, with more power, but effectively the same familiar profile feel as the Gen 4, so felt right at home. Again, I had setup issues with the bike as it was too firm for my weight and liking. I kept looking at the switch link, waiting for it to flip, but could not get through enough travel to flip it. It was frustrating not exercising one of the most superb suspension designs out there.
    1776666766031.webp
  4. Amflow PX: Large, full 29. The bike looks better in person, though I have to admit the down tube was not as svelte as expected - on-profile it looked wider than the Flux because the 800Wh batter is actually skinnier on edge than the 700wh. The mediums were out on test as the demand for PX rides was so high all PX slots were filled by 10am. While I tend to choose small size bikes, the large size wheelbase may have worked to my advantage with the powerful M2S. Nowhere did the bike buck under power or felt that I lost front traction on the uphills. The bike was very well-mannered and still quite maneuverable in the full 29 config. Suspension tune was also firm but not as out of line compared to the Flux and LTE, so I could better assess the ride. I came away feeling that this bike is no longer a primer to introduce Avinox to masses but rather a first rate bike in its own right. But the the most important takeaway is the M2S motor, which I’ve fully discuss here.
  5. Mahle: Nondescript bike with M40 motor. Without any US takers, this test was for contrasting purposes to the other motors I tested. Short take: Powerful enough, quiet enough, controllable enough. But these days you need more than enough to squeeze into a the US marketplace taken over by Bosch, Avinox, and Brose. Would have stood out more about 2 years ago.
  6. Amflow PR (base M2 model). Full 29. I squeezed this test in at the last minute as a tester just got back before closing and didn’t pay attention what size it was. I felt I had to test the M2 because the motor is different electro-mechanical build than the M2S. I chiefly focussed on the assessment of the M2 motor rather than the bike itself and fully elaborated on it here. With a small test time window, I the rode bike fast and it kept its composure. In the end, a very ridable rig, despite motor rattle, and at that entry level price, it’s going to be hard to top its value ROI.

@slickrock Where do you normally ride? I'm normally at Pleasanton Ridge, Del Val and Brushy Peak. I test road the same Flux you did. Really felt nice coming from my SC Heckler 9. I'm 99% sure I'm calling the guys over at Drip E-Bikes and ordering a custom Flux. That blue with the red ZEB is calling my name.

I normally ride: Briones Regional Reserve, Tilden, and Wilder, San Pablo dam, all within riding distance; then Chabot-Joachim Miller and Redwood Regional for that big red tree shade. Yes, that Flux left a good impression. Would have likeed to test it with MX wheels in the 29 flip chip mode. One of the other bikes had a BMB stem - that thing is catching on.
