Hi,

saterday i was at a bike store and the salesman told me that there are changes upcoming to the cheapest model. in april there will be an upgrade to make it with a battery that you can take out.
anybody else heard this rumor? is it true?

Doubts it's true since the carbon on the Amflow is very thin to keep the weight low therfore also the dowentube will crack or even break.
If Amflow is releasing a new frame maybe the battery will be removable but then also the weight would increase.

Heard that from my local bike shop also, but the shop owner made a few weird mistakes about the current bike's specs so I'm not taking his word at 100% reliable...

A LBS now sells Amflow. Have 2022 alloy Trek Rails, so asked what would happen to an Amflow if it was crashed into a tree or ditch like we somtimes do with our Rails.

There is a reason (actually two) why the new Pivot LT got removable battery according to the company.

Yes, there will be a cheaper Amflow aluminum model with a removable battery.
 
hmm, so no carbon version? if so then it will be losing my interest. only carbon for me
The latest rumors suggest an aluminum frame with a removable battery, a new carbon model with increased travel, and a city bike. Not to mention the new M2 motor.

If this is true, and Amflow can't manage a removable battery setup for less than 2KG weight penalty, then their structural knowledge is poor. Many other frame manufacturers can integrate a removable battery set up for far less weight penalty and have no trouble doing it with carbon frames.

It's true that it's a rumour! :)
 
If this is true, and Amflow can't manage a removable battery setup for less than 2KG weight penalty, then their structural knowledge is poor. Many other frame manufacturers can integrate a removable battery set up for far less weight penalty and have no trouble doing it with carbon frames.
It's likely the combination of having a removable battery and being an alloy frame resulting in the 2kg increase.

Either way I can't wait for April so we can finally put all these bike rumors to rest. Far too many at this point!
 
I’ve never felt the need to remove my amflow battery aside from the day I had to put it in (mine shipped battery separate due to my location). I’m pretty surprised so many people want a removable battery over lighter more sleek design. I’m usually pretty tired after running out the full battery, and if I felt I needed more it charges so quick you could just hook up a portable electric generator and be out on the trails again by the time you eat some lunch.

Portable generator. There’s plenty electric ones that run entire camper vans. Or gas would work too. Some of these can be had for about the same price as a battery.

It's not practical to charge a battery in the middle of the ride, at least not for me. A dude I know has a DJI Crestline and gets about 1% per minute on his fast charger and portable generator. So if you're down to 20% and you want to ride another 2 hours, means sitting around for at least an hour to get an appreciable charge back, that prolongs the day more than I want and you get cold and your muscles have to warm up all over again after that long, I don't need an hour for lunch lol, more like 10-15 minutes. Where we ride most are self-shuttle type places, big climbs for pretty long descents. Maybe charging and extra long lunches is okay for some, but I like 3-4 hours of ride time continuously. Now if I wanted a lighter design, I'd say give me 2 600W removable batteries so I can lose 2 lbs on bike weight and enjoy better handling all the time.

Haha. Im not carrying a generator 15-20 miles back in on my bike. I ride 30-40 mile rides with 6000 ft to 8000 ft vertical. There are no roads, no cars, nothing. Hell, there's hardly a trail sometimes. lol

That’s some serious rides for sure. I wouldn’t really want to ride with an 800 wh battery strapped to me either but that’s pretty rad. Man you crack a rim or motor fails, that’s an extremely crappy trek home.

We carry a lot of extra parts.

I have carried an extra battery a few times, but my new bike has an extender battery. I carry it almost all the time now. Since the Amflow doesn't have an extender battery, you would be forced to carry an extra battery.

So in the grand scheme would you prefer just a range extender over a removable battery if you had to choose? There’s images out there of an Avinox range extender so I’m sure one is coming.

Id rather have an extender over removable, but Ive talked to Amflow 3-4 times and they told me no extender coming. For my riding I need about 1100wh to 1200wh. The pics Ive seen of the Avinox extenders are all aftermarket. Id rather not have aftermarket as I need warranty with all the riding I do.

Now that I have a bike with an extender I didn't need a removable battery last year. I would probably only need a removable battery a couple times a year.

Sometimes the only way to reset the electronics is a full battery disconnect and then reconnect. How would you do something like that?

I’ve literally taken my battery out lol. You can remove it in under 10 minutes your first time ever doing it. I bet I can take it out in under 5 minutes now and swap the battery.

I guess maybe some of you guys don’t realize “non-removable” doesn’t actually mean you can’t remove it.

Oh do you mean on the trail? Yeah that would be annoying for sure. Would have to head back to the car i guess if you don’t have a second tool for the motor mounts. You could just carry that one extra hex bolt size for the motor mount

What mud and snow? In the very unlikely scenario where I thought unplugging the battery would solve my issue, id personally man up and wipe the mud off to take the 5 mins to drop the motor and unplug it. You got a jacket you can wipe it off with. You have a backpack you can easily have the spare hex to get the motor mount. Or just bike back… with the removable avinox you still have to flip the bike and remove some bolts to get the cover off. It’s 2 extra bolts for the motor mount… it’s seriously that simple, 2 bolts extra.

I get we don’t agree on this issue. It’s ok I still love you guys! I just think if it saves a lot of weight and it obviously looks way sleeker, the “non-removable” is preferred to me. Mostly because I know 100% it’s extremely easy to remove it and swap batteries if I wanted to even do that.
