Thank you it's thanks to you that I discovered Rockguardz. I find the original one of a really poor quality.?

It works well..better than the standard plastic one.
Knocked this up this morning, using some basic hand tools; covers the standard guard. Bought a 1.5mm x 250mm x 1000mm sheet from eBay for £12.50, so have plenty of material left for mk. 2 or friends. Thinking about making another that attaches to via the inner motor housing bolts.

Looks a bit utilitarian, but I quite like that.

Would it be a good idea to tape over the screw heads to protect them as well?
No reason why not, do you have a ‘tape’ in mind?
I’ve re-used the standard countersunk bolts. If you used 2mm thick plate instead of 1.5mm you could make them deeper and have the bolt heads sitting below the surface.

I've just ordered a Rockguardz cover for mine but was thinking that the small allen head screws are still vulnerable.

Yes they are, but that’s no different to the standard unit. At least the Rockguardz offers better protection.
I noticed the bolt heads protrude above the surface of the Rockguardz cover. You could countersick the holes deeper so the bolts sit below the surface a little.
I guess if one got damaged that badly you could always cut a slot with a junior hacksaw, so you could remove it with a flat bladed screw driver.
I’m going to look at making another aluminium one that bolts on with the motor cover bolts. I’ll post some pics if I do.
