So after 3rd ride on my new 9 I'm so so glad I took a punt on it after coming from a 19 Trance e1....I f*#king love this bike!!
It is more different than the Trance than I expected, love the Bosch motors power delivery (about to get better with update), I like to spin, something the Yamaha did not, more cadence=more power=more fun haha.
The geometry differences suggest it would be sluggish but am blown away at how much better it climbs and how fast it turns.....playful as.
So far am liking the shock, really like the Lyrik, big improvement over Fox performance 36e.
It really matches how I feel I ride, bombing, railing, climbing crazy steep stuff....its a beast!
Have got a 180mm Oneup dropper arriving tomorrow which will keep me satisfied re mods for a while....am already as fast on the 9 in winter slippery conditions as I was on the Trance in summer....did I say I really like this bike? ?

Nice! What rear mudguard are your running there? It looks like a nice fit.

Its a Mucky Nutz short front, just needed a little heatgun action to widen it slightly for extra tyre clearance, protects lower linkage pretty well.

What length was your stock dropper?
I gotta agree with your findings, I am so impressed with the nimbleness of my 7 & how much better it goes the faster you go. Being a weak climber (even after 30yrs mtbing) I spin more so the power delivery is spot on. Mines in pieces atm while I spray it but once it's done it's on with the minions & out on the trails.

9 comes with a 150mm, mates 7 has a 125mm, same size M frames so a 7 will take a 180mm, really liked the extra drop today. Yup its a great package, looking forward to the motor update to make it even more of a weapon.
Am running a 2.6 Assegai up front with a 2.6 dhf on rear, might get an Assegai on back too as its getting wet and slippery in NZ on local rooty trails.

Tony, the motor firmware update is available in NZ now. I just had mine done at T7 Mt Wellington this morning.

Cheers, asked the local Trek shop in HB yesterday and they were still waiting....?
It was released on Tuesday (NZ time) apparently. Mine was the first that they had done. Interesting to note that the mechanic said he had to specifically select 85Nm.

Loving my rail 9.8 also , I've recently fitted 29x2.8 wtb vigilante trye on the front and it's a absolute riot just charge through everything, have fitted new bars and new 155mm crank arms have arrived with new one up pedals just need to get the update and recalibrate for the new crank arms at my local bike shop, will also be increasing travel to 170mm with the new air spring which I will myself amazing bike
