Is anyone using a quadlock equivalent and what’s it like compared ?

Don’t really want to spend £60 for a kit when I could maybe get one for half that and just not pay for the name ?

Phones on the bars are crap, get a decent jacket, shorts or trousers with an easily accessible zipped phone pocket and save yourself buying a mount. It might take a few seconds longer but you won't smash an expensive phone or look like a complete tool that screams incompetence. Or buy a GPS.

Yeah I was thinking I don’t wanna have a fall ot somehow smash / wreck my iPhone.

Having real time navigation display is something I find helpful especially when not on trails in the back country. I have been using "Ram mounts" when on Snowmobiles and dirt bikes and they are fairly heavy components. I use a large screen android phone with a bright display, with navigation program like "OnX" for the US and "Kamoot" in other countries. I have been looking for a lighter option that is more affordable than the Quad lock. The nav features are amazing, especially to be able to discover routes through difficult terrain.

Peak designs, way better than the Quad lock system. Not sure on pricing these days but you might be able to pick a phone case and mount up on ebay.

Galaxy S23 with X-level TPU case fits fine in a ROCKBROS phone holder (£14.59) so does the job (both from Amazon UK).

Thanks for the Peak designs suggestion, it looks like a good option compared to the Quad. I found this comparison.

I’m the complete tool that’s been using a combined power pack/ phone holder since 2014 all over the U.K., France and Spain. I also sometimes use bar ends on 60 mile rides to ease the wrists.
Don’t be patronising and talk to me about tools when you reach 80 years old.

I saw the wireless charging versions were super pricey and the standard kit more expensive in the 99.00 range so yes it is not for the faint of heart. If I were not Scottish and willing to spend that kind of money I would probably go with the Peak. I am still looking for a less expensive option.

With that said navigation is so important for my needs and my phone is not something I would like to loose from a poor designed mount, I probably will buck up and pay what it takes. Having terrain and map data available in the back country is definitely a game changer for exploring remote areas. Not having to stop and whip out the phone is priceless :)

ps a good policy for doing distance back country riding is to have 3 devices for gps mapping, I take a phone, garmin, and a satellite messenger.

Grow up, it wasn't to be taken personally. At 80 you should know better than pretend it was

After witnessing a guy do himself and his phone serious injury when he fell off his bike with keys and phone in trouser pockets I invested in the Quadlock system. I believe the Mous system may be easier to use and gets good reviews. Carrying hard objects in trouser pockets is asking for trouble and I have no intention of wearing a jacket in hot weather. I only mount my phone on the bike when I need to do some serious navigation. For down hill bike park rides I have a small Evoc bum bag that holds phone and keys at the back where IMO there is less risk. Other bum bags I have owned did not work for me. They were either too thin and I could feel everything in there or too bulky and stuck out too far at the back.

Another tool here, with an old simless Android phone mounted on a handlebar quadlock mount for navigation with a powerpack attached while my phone is tucked away in my small backpack.

Well I had a look at the Peak Design Phone case - well that's AUD90 and another AUD130 for the out front mount. I paid AUD90 shipped for the Quadlock Case and Mount. Peak a bit exxy for this black duck.

I've had a quadlock for a few years, it's probably the most secure system there is but it does have issues. The case is bulky and it is awkward to place and remove the phone. After watching a few vidoes I have ordered a Mous system.

It has several advantages 1) The case is less bulky 2) The case is Magsafe compatible (The latest Quadlock case is also but it's still bulky, does not feel nice in the hand and IMO does not protect the phone as well as the Mous one) 3) It far easier to place and remove both the phone and the bike adapter. 4) It's easier to position the phone where you want it 5) It may not be up to the standard of Quadlock regarding attachment security but I would never ride a downhill rated trail with it attached with either system so ease of use ranks high on my list.

I will be interested in how the Mous phone case and holder works out. I see that they have both "Mag Safe" and "physical mount" and I don't know which is better. Is the mag safe a magnetic holding connection rather than a clip in?

I've been using Peak Design for the last 3 years. It's a great system. You should also invest in their wireless charger. Pricy but well worth it.

On the bike it's initially magnetic but backed up by a physical mechanism. The magsafe feature is simply so that you can add magsafe devices and charge your phone that way.

Using an old smartphone I had lying around as a bike computer.

As I have a 3D printer a printed a case for it with a lock I based on the garmin edge. At first I had it stem mounted as a top cap, but made a holder for it that I mounted to the top tube with double sided tape that I like better.

You should start a fb page and start making them 😂

I bought an adapter to mount my Bosch Kiox on the top frame but It's not really to my liking as in order to accomodate the 1mm curve (this is the smallest available) I have to place it too far down the top tube. It also stands too proud for my liking so I have abandoned that idea. I have ordered an "official" Bosch adapter that will allow me to mount the Kiox at the side of the stem rather than on top. I'm hoping the Mous case and mount will allow me to position my phone over the stem on the very few occasions that I might use it.

Pulling the phone out constantly for navigating is a pain. Buying a gps when everyone already owns a gps called a phone is a really dumb move.
