Propain support: how are they to deal with? (UK)

As above - I'm considering a Sresh SL, but I'm unsure about the quality of support that I will experience if/when technical problems arise.

Any UK-based riders care to share their experiences?

The other option currently is the latest Trek Fuel+ which may be the safer option as Trek shops are close by.

Your thoughts appreciated.

There'll be the odd owner around who may have a view to offer but the facts are they're a German company who are at best a niche brand in the UK & have one site in Crawley. Odds are you'll be fine, however anyone in the UK who owns a Focus will have a tale to tell.
 
Just to expand a little, there's a risk with any brand. Canyon batteries, YT evaporating & taking customer's money with them, Intense, Focus quitting Europe and so on. The safe option is to stick with either a native brand like Whyte but probably not Deviate or a global juggernaut, Spesh, Trek, Giant, Halfords(!) & their extensive dealer in every town networks.

But even then, your worst exposure is really only two years or so on whatever warranty they offer that covers major componentry like motors, batteries wheels or whatever. After that, you're into a used bike where like all the others, the bulk of components are just bolt on third party stuff that people routinely upgrade & service independently of the brand.

Which leaves frames. Before Accell bought Lapierre, my local LBS dropped them as a brand & the reason was that every frame issue resulted in LP requiring the frame to be returned to France for inspection & customers just weren't willing to put up with no bike for six weeks while Lapierre stroked their beards, sucked their teeth & poked the bike with a pencil while they made their minds up. Those are the main factors I would take into account but also with a degree of perspective - bikes are generally great & reliable now, the market is competitive & that drives service and most of us aren't park rats hucking to flat day & night, putting the bikes through the wringer.
 
Thanks for the comments. You are basically echoing my nagging, sensible side. There's not a lot of difference between the bike specs (both are customisable) to warrant the risk.

You may have made my mind up.

Trek have a generally excellent reputation for after sales support which is why I didn't hesitate to buy my Fuel+ after test riding it and finding it was brilliant!
 
Loam Wolf have also reviewed both the Shresh SL and the Fuel+. You might find their comments useful in making your choice if the after sales support argument isn't enough.

Sounds like you've made up your mind, but in case it helps...

I've owned two propain Tyees and also two Treks which both had the TQ motors. I've been riding TQ for nearly 4 years. Also had a quick spin on a Sresh SL, loved it.

I really like Propain's geometry and Pro10 suspension. Also a huge fan of TQ with the 580 battery specifically, the range is killer.

Something a lot of reviews miss, a Vivid air or SDU with the XL can, with a bunch of volume spacers, does wonders for the Propain suspension. Allows you to run lower pressure, for better small bump sensitivity. They are still very sporty, poppy bikes, not couches, but can be plush on small stuff when tuned in.

All that said I'm only a few hours from Propain's NA HQ. I wouldn't be worried about their frame, but the Acros headsets are absolute garbage and having been through one TQ motor warranty, I really appreciated Trek's excellent & local customer service. Where I live, I could expect similar service from Propain, but I'm not sure that applies to South Wales.
 
Thanks. Yes, that’s the great unknown for me.

Given the excellent reviews of the Fuel Plus and the proximity to a Trek dealer it’s not quite a done deal, but probably top of the list.
