A week ago, a bolt came loose while I was riding, but the crank didn’t come off. Today I found out about this issue, and my bike is affected.

My crank fell off indeed, i screwed it a bit more with some thread lock, is it enough ? It didn't move since I did it

I almost lost my left crank arm after about 250 km. Now I check them regularly, and recommend Locktite.
Generally, use of that plastic cap that covers bolt, like on bikes for 150€ from supermarket, making it impossible to tell if it's loose or not. It is one of few but significant flaws of Cube bikes.
I'll soon be replacing those cheap bolts with a standard set of self-extracting ones.

Picking up a brand new cube stereo one44 tomorrow - better make sure this has been checked before heading out 🙈

Does the issue require new hardware or is it a locktite / torque thing that is causing the problem?

I asked at my LBS when picked up new bike, they said the new/replacement hardware will be shipped out in September! So between now and then just check regularly !

New hardware, i.e. screws/bolts.

Same here. Picked up this week a new bike, produced in May, and was told to receive the new screws sometime August / September. It is okay for me and I will keep an eye on it.

Yup... I discovered the 2 day-old recall while sat on a rock awaiting rescue at the trailhead

The teeth on the crank were damaged, bolt nowhere to be seen. At least I discovered walk assist works fine....

LBS replaced the crank immediately and initiated a warranty claim under the recall. In Canada it seems the advice is to add Loctite, tighten to 50nm, and check regularly until the replacement bolts come in.

(not bad for a first post, eh?!)

A rather eventful start! Lets hope the next post is less problematic :)

I would have hoped so, but alas this problem isn't going away.... The new Acid crank and bolt have the same issue. Had to tighten 3 times after rides since. Blue loctite doesn't seem to make much difference.

Trying to source 155mm cranks that aren't $400+ in Canada is a bit of an issue right now, so I cant even swap them out for something shiny.

To really rub it in, the rear brake rotor came loose mid-ride today too...

Hi, have you used the self-tightening screws before? If so, with what result? Thanks

The SRAM eagle 90 cranks come in 150mm and 155mm and should be quite cheap.

Thank you, I‘ve just ordered them. Is it necessary to apply Loctite?
Just in case! Cube is marking the new screws / replacing screws with a paint spot in the center. This might lead a bike shop to replace screws not being marked, i.e. if not being told not to do so.

I changed the bolts and they really weren't tight enough; they came out with minimal force.

I installed some self-extracting ones, and tightened them to 50 Nm (they are marked at 54 Nm), which was much more than they were before.

If you haven't changed them yet, check the tightness regularly and change them as soon as possible.

My new SRAM XO 155mm cranks arrived yesterday and the tightness of new, correctly manufactured bolts is a night and day difference....

According to dealer instructions by Cube the screws are to be replaced and tightened with 50Nm. In case crank is not aligned correctly to the axle the torque shall be increased to 60Nm. If alignment is still not correct the crank arms shall be replaced.

Looks like the problem is not with the screws but with bad tolerances of the ISIS link on 2025 crank arms (n) - that should be replaced by Cube instead of the screws and not holding the manufacturer of the crank arms responsible.

My Bosch dealer told me that the problem was that Bosch had used the wrong Locktite which was too thick and affected the torque by up to 10Nm. They were instructed to torque to 55 or 60Nm or fit new bolts with the proper lock solution.
Personally I don’t see what can be wrong with a bolt provided it is the correct thread and torqued correctly, as long as it’s not plastic. If something kept coming loose I would put a lock washer on it and adjust the torque.
I wonder if we will ever get to know the real reason for the fuss.

Hey, if they say so it has to be correct. We seem to believe what we want to hear, and if it makes us happy - lol

Acid cranks are utter crap, mine stripped the pedal threads within 3 months, got e thirteen cranks instead, never had an issue,i dont know what spec of aluminium acid use,but the metal is too soft,i have heard of other riders having the same issue, praxis arent much better either.

My old bike and my partner’s bike are both 10 years old with Acid crank arms so crap cranks is not a given.
A problem can happen with every component made, even Hope, that doesn’t make them all crap. Perhaps you have more pedal strikes than me.

Acording to my local shop, they have a seriel number list with bikes to repalce the crank bolt . For ex mine 0ne77 slx it isn´t in the list. Also if they are propper torqued and with locktite shouldn´t (checked by the shop ) be an issue.

Nope, not by serial number. Just 2025 crank arm type installed on these models:
Cube Recall List

Looks like not all. My local shop as list from Cube by serial number and my bike was checked . Also torque checked.
When was your bike assembled at Cube works? Maybe after they found that the bolts / crank arms are faulty.

Do you have a paint spot on the bolt in the axle? If yes, it is the new version.

The note on Cube website of date if purchase is not correct. I bought a trekking ebike in August and it is subject to the recall, i.e. I am waiting to receive a call from the dealer to come in for replacement.

Nothing wrong with either the crank arm or the retaining bolt. Notice that Cube only want them returned for inspection.
Too much of the wrong Loctite was used effecting the torque on the screw by up to 10Nm. The recommended tighten to 55Nm solves the problem.
Ive heard all sorts of stories from faulty crank arms to wrong thread and even the use of self tapping screws.
