Hey there! So yesterday I swapped the original RockShox Boxxer Select for a Fox 40 Performance Elite. Unfortunately I was so exited that I ripped everything appart, before having a good look how everything stuck together.

Now I have trouble with the top bearing and the clamp ring.

The fork fits perfectly at the bottom, but no matter how hard I try, the space between the frame and the dust cap won't get smaller. In all the videos I watched, the clamp ring fits even into the top bearing, but not mine. What am I doing wrong?

Yes I know there's no grease in there, I will do that as soon as everything fits how it should be! =)

I have only 3 pieces. The bearing, the clamp ring and the dust cap.

You have tried completely assembling the whole thing, including the stem and the top cap, and preloading to take up the play in the top bearing. You will have to grease the compression ring. This should push down the compression ring and compress it to centre the steering tube.

Ok you think when I grease everything it should work?

What do you mean with preloading? Sorry english is not my first language

Maybe the fox steerer has a slightly higher outer diameter than the boxxer which prevents that “C” spacer to close more tightly. You should use a calliper to measure both steerer tubes outer diameters in that area.

My Levo has a slightly smaller gap, but still a gap. The top cap turns with the stem etc so it will always need some gap. I always have the slot in the compression ring facing the rear and squirt some grease into the slot to stop water getting in.
