I just installed a new Bosch Gen 4 Spyder part # 380-0372000050. This Spyder has about 4mm more offset to allow larger sprocket on my Rail 5. Should I try using a Wolf 36 oval Chain Ring. The 36 oval should pull like a 38 round chain ring...if you understand how ovals work.

Yeah. Go for it. I guarantee it will feel absolutely amazing allowing you to climb trails you'd never dreamt you'd be able to previously and leave all your friends for dead on the flat.

but only if you don't understand how your motor works

Sram chain rings are expensive, so if I can get a Wolf oval for same price...why not

BTW my Rail5 already climbs things that I thought I could never climb...amazing bike.

The chainring does not follow the cranks on an ebike. There is also a torque sensor and a motor controller that manages the power output from the motor. In short, ovals do not work well on ebikes and I doubt that you will get any benefits from it.

Love ovals on normal bikes, though.

I bent my OE sprocket in a crash. I tried to straighten, but the slightest bend in sprocket caused my chain to fall off during heavy load.

Which is why I am currently using the new spyder and 34 tooth Sram chain ring.

Are you guys finding it difficult to find original equipment 34 tooth front sprocket?
