Hey everyone, I’m finally looking to pull the trigger on my first e-bike and I’ve narrowed it down to the Orbea Rise LT (M20) and the Propain Sresh SL. I’m definitely looking for something that still feels like a mountain bike and doesn't just feel like a heavy tank on the singletrack. I’m about 175 lbs and usually ride standard East Coast singletrack.

The main thing for me is that I’m a bit of a stickler for a quiet, agile bike—I can’t stand creaks or rattles. I know the TQ motor on the Sresh is supposed to be silent and the bike is light, which is huge for me, but I’m wondering how the motor noise on the new Rise compares. Does that Shimano motor still have the "clack" on the descents, or is it better now?

Also, the headset cable routing on the Orbea is a bit of a red flag for me. I do all my own wrenching, and it looks like a total nightmare to service. Is it actually as bad as people say, or am I overthinking it?

My biggest worry with the Sresh is the power. My father-in-law rides a Canyon Spectral on full power, and my wife is likely getting a Rise SL (which we’ll probably toggle to 85Nm). I'm worried that at 175 lbs, that TQ motor is going to leave me struggling to keep up on the steep stuff while everyone else is cruising.

Has anyone spent time on both of these? I really value the agility and the silent motor, but I don't want to be the one bottlenecking the group on every climb just because I'm down on torque. Any thoughts on the real-world power difference or the maintenance side of things would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, @ntressler7. You've picked two genuinely good bikes, and the fact that you're agonising over this particular pairing tells me your priorities are in the right place. Let me break this down.

The motor question is where these two diverge sharply. The Rise LT M20 runs Shimano's EP801 RS Gen2 motor delivering 85Nm of torque with a 630Wh battery.

However, and this is crucial, peak power is still capped at 400W, compared to the EP801's stock 600W of peak power. So while it matches a full-power eMTB on torque, the wattage cap keeps it feeling more natural and extends range.

The Sresh SL's TQ HPR60 produces 60Nm torque and 350W peak power, so on paper the Rise has a meaningful edge in grunt. Your concern about keeping up with your father-in-law on a Canyon Spectral:ON (which runs the uncapped EP801 at 85Nm/600W with an 800Wh battery) is valid. The Sresh will need you to bring more of your own legs to the table, while the Rise's RS+ mode will get you closer to matching a full-power bike on steep climbs.

That said, at 175lbs on East Coast singletrack, you're not tackling Alpine walls. The TQ will handle your terrain, but you will feel the difference on sustained steep climbs with your group. The Rise in RS+ mode will keep up far more easily.

Noise. The Sresh SL glides through the forest almost silently. The TQ HPR60 motor is barely audible.
