Levo Gen 2 Opinion on warranty claim dilemma....

Need opinions on a warranty claim dilemma...

Purchased a 2021 Levo Comp new for $6300 USD two weeks ago. I got it home, saw an undercut weld between the top tube and down tube. Never rode it and took it to the LBS. They agreed the weld was not right. They talked to specialized and I have been given two options:

Option 1) Return the bike and get my $6300 USD back. Note the same bike now sells for $7500 USD instead of $6300 USD.

Option 2) Get a full replacement bike. Was told it could take as long as 8 months to a year before I get it due to supply shortages. I would need to turn in my current bike now while waiting for the replacement. In doing so, I would still maintain the $1200 savings I got in the initial purchase.

I asked about getting a 2022 if those are in stock sooner, they said no because the 2021 are still in production.

I am leaning towards Option 2 and taking my savings to help buy a new / used analog bike to go with the new Levo.

Thoughts?

I would be tempted by option one, as in addition to your thoughts, the rumour mill is predicting a new bike from Specilized being launched in the next few months, and also an updated Levo, likely based off the same platform but with some tweaks.

I would ask the LBS to make sure you have an option on first delivery slots on whatever is announced.

I agree. I’d be going for option 1.

Get your money and buy something else. I wouldn’t want them having my money and no bike for that amount of time.

shame they won’t give you a courtesy bike in the meantime. I know they won’t but annoying you paid your money and don’t have a bike.
Hope you get sorted either way ??

Sorry, I just edited my post....I meant to say I am leaning towards option 2 and taking the $1200 savings to get an analog bike.

If I went option 1, I would forfeit the $1200 I saved. My understanding is that the same motor is being used in the 2022 version, so I am not sure if it's really worth the extra $1200 for some minor updates? That is my current logic.

Take the money and buy any other bike except anything by Speccy. And from a different LBS if you can.

Better still email Speccy and tell them exactly what you are doing and why, otherwise your action will go un-noticed.

Sorry but I think your logic is...........illogical! You have not saved and will not lose $1200! You paid $6300 and you get all of that back.
So take the money and buy another bike.
If you are set on buying the same or similar bike again in the future you can reserve some cash by buying second hand...then selling that bike when what you want becomes available.

All,

I have decided to proceed with getting a replacement bike. Specialized Rider Care has reached out to me via this forum to hopefully help shorten that 8-12 month lead time the LBS has mentioned. Hard to beat that customer service and responsiveness, which is why you buy Specialized. Hopefully they come through for me.

Thanks for the feedback!

For someone that hates Specialized as much as you do, you sure spend a lot of time on the Speccy forum.
Do you not get enough satisfaction from your bike?

It’s very strange behaviour Steven.

You have genuinely surprised me there! I don't hate Specialized; nether the company, its brand image, nor its bikes. The Levo is not to my taste, but that is not a matter for hate. Life is too short for hate. My post that prompted your post was about dealing with a warranty claim and poor customer service, it just happened to concern a Specialized bike. I would have made the same comment if it had been about a Focus bike (my current bike brand).

By the way I do not spend time on the Speccy Forum per se. I have never gone to the Speccy forum to see what's happening, I just read the titles of all the new posts and read the ones that capture my interest. With the number of Levos and Kenevos on the market, by the law of averages I am bound to open a lot of threads where the bike is a Speccy.

Yeah you surprised me too.
Telling someone to buy any other bike but a Specialzied when you haven’t actually owned one didn’t seem like something you would stoop too but it seems to be the fun thing to do here.
All good, not having a go

If you like it so much, ride the bike and get Specialised send you a spare frame. When the frame arrives LBS can rebuild it for you over few days and you are sorted.

If it’s unsafe to ride I would expect a replacement bike.

This is rather shocking story and incredible devotion to the brand.

I didn't believe that I was stooping to anything. It was about registering a protest. It didn't matter to me that it was a Specialized, I would have said the same if it was a Focus. I do not have a "thing" about Specialized, nor any other brand that I have never owned. Although I have ridden a Levo and a Kenevo, each for several hours, it played no part in my advice.
When someone experiences that lack of customer service, it is by no means "fun".

Yes the op was asking people for their opinion on two warranty options. You clearly gave yours and then some. Fair enough.

Spesh is best in customer service and warranty. We pay a bit more initially, but are better for it IMO, and get a better bike.
if you disagree, you probs brought the wrong bike, or brought the right one and expect more than the world can give.

I live in Chile, not in the capital, and I know someone who had a corrosion problem in his 2019 turbo levo, and Specialized replaced the frame under warranty in a week. my LBS has 2 motors in stock , ALWAYS. , 3rd world problems. ;)
my shop has a spare motor and a bag of power leads under the counter but not many would hold a frame too many variants. Certainly spare frames back at Specialized office.

yes, the frame was supplied from the specialized office, but in a very short amount of time.
