Odometer double mileage issue with E8000 and Canyon eBikes

Just had a response from Canyon regarding an issue with my Neuron:On / E8000 motor where the odometer clocks up double mileage.

Canyon stated that they are aware of the issue and are working with Shimano on a solution.

Once Canyon have worked out a solution with Shimano they will be in touch.

Just hope I don't clock up too many miles waiting!

Was a solution ever found for this issue? as my mate has exactly the same problem.
He has a Merida and never had a problem until he replaced the original STEPS 8000 computer display unit (it had failed) with a new one.
He’s just had a new motor fitted under warranty and the display unit still reads double mileage but the mph is correct when riding.
He changed the display as I had a spare one (process of elimination) but still reads double mileage.
Any suggestions as to a fix would be most welcome.
