Hey all,

Just wondering how many would like something like I would? A speed HOLD button. It could be for those peddle strike situations where it would be able to keep the bike going forward when the peddles cannot. Thus preventing those unwanted dismounts into rocks and or terrain where it wont be easy to get going again. EMTB's have made it possible to go places like never before. But sometimes areas are just too much to risk.
So , not a throttle , but simply a button to hold the power after it was attained by peddling so as to get through those areas... anyone else?

Sounds like you want extended-extended overrun

So a throttle... what your describing is the purpose of over-run. Add shorter cranks and a bit of technique and no need for that throttle.

Consider it a challenge and not a nuisance.

Yeah the opportunity to neutral bypass using your own ability to peddle cranks, a kind of clutch mech to disengage the motor to dragging when reaching speed cut off, so no motor just your own effort without the feel of the anchor.

I use the age old method of "improving my skills" as a way to avoid unwanted dismounts.

Not needed and one more thing to complicate the drive system. Avoid pedal strikes the proper way. Riding technique.

Seems like a natural progression to me. I have a disability which means I can’t pedal standing up - I always thought a super walk mode, high torque but not high rpm would be useful for short rocky outcrops to get you over where you might otherwise stall out. This would be a useful derestriction chip add on

I agree, but it only works for a very short time, and I would like to be able to adjust the operating time in the app, at least to 4-5 seconds.

My Orbea Rise has an EP8-RS , which does not have overrun.
Didn't think this small question/request would cause a stir. Just a thought on expanding possibilities.

Ideally please call the older EP8 drive unit which your bike most probably is using "DU-EP800" in the future to avoid any misunderstandings and confusion.
Unfortunately Shimano has branded the newer DU-EP801 (released end of 2022) and the older DU-EP800 (released in 2020) on the right side motor cover with the same “EP8” signature.
However, the older DU-EP800 and the newer DU-EP801 are completely different types of drive units in mechanical, electronical, firmware and software aspects.
To visually distinguish these two motor types, you can have a look at this German forum post or also this or this one.

Only the newer DU-EP801 supports the "overrun" functionality (officially called "assist carry over") which allows that the motor will still support the bike for max. 2 seconds once you stop pedalling. You instantly can stop this additional motor support by turning the crank backwards slightly.
This functionality was introduced with motor firmware 4.3.0 of the DU-EP801 as part of the "race package", see here, go down to “Firmware Updates” and then use “Filter by Model No”, then “DU-EP801”):
