New "EBike" Regulations in California

1) California is 1/5th of the US economy
2) ever notice in a lot of cases the rest of the country tends to follow California laws like this?
3) the real problem is guys that want to turn their e mountain bikes into dirt bikes. I want more access to trails not less. A bunch of morons roosting up a trail at 30 mph will be the end of the access for e Mtb’s.

I’m curious how you turn your “e mountain bike” into dirt bikes? That would be a neat trick….lol

I really don't understand why anyone would want more than the Bosch/Shimano/Yamahas that are currently out there. If I put my ep801 in boost with the assist character turned full up it's basically a e motorcycle at that point. I barely press on the pedals and I'm going 18mph, it's ridiculous for a MTB. Anyone who wants more really just wants a dirt bike. Just buy a motorcycle and be happy, it's why I ride MTB, to stay in shape for racing hare scrambles!

I’m gonna have to disagree with this. Dirt bikes have throttles and make way, way more horsepower and are way way faster. I own a 250 2 stroke and a 450 4 stroke. I also own a bosch CX Race motor in my ebike and even in race mode it doesn’t even come close to either of my dirt bikes or any other of the motorcycles I’ve owned. They’re not even close to being in the same ballpark. It’s apples and oranges. And it always will be.

You completely lost the point. He in not saying e bikes are motorcycles, he is saying anything more than a full boost limited e bike, you might as well be on a dirt bike.

Agreed. I only ever use turbo/ boost on an extremely steep incline towards the end of a ride (less than 2% of the time). Mostly, I stay in ECO, although eMtb mode is awesome on the Bosch.

One of the things you brought up is a very valid point. Most of the kids run due to the increased enforcement so then a “pursuit” occurs. Many of the kids (not all but many) are not very skilled at riding a bike (anctukky an motorcycle) and end up crashing. A similar incident occurred in my county and a kid was seriously injured. The kids parents then sued the county stating that if the police were not pursuing their kid then he would not have fallen. It’s a slippery slope, and one that I do not believe has a clear cut answer.

The harder part isn't when the kid TA's but when the kid takes someone else while running--whether that is directly or indirectly, such as when a bystander is struck by a pursuing vehicle. Personally, if you're running from LE, you or your survivors should not be able to sue.
