My last 2 rides on my Whyte Kado have been races, my first races in an e-bike category and they’ve been so much fun.
First up was the Army Cycling Enduro Series at Forest of Dean. It’s a mashup series so the e-bike really comes into it’s own being able to winch and plummet as many times as you like in the day getting lots of laps in, meaning lots of fun.
I did 18 laps, 28 miles and 6400ft of climbing on race day all on top of a day at FOD before the race where I smashed out 16 laps 22 miles and 5500ft of climbing
Then yesterday was the Southern Enduro British National Enduro Series at Minehead!
It’s my first time riding there and it was on another level!
Yesterday I raced for 15 miles and 4000ft of climbing and the day before in practice and seeding, I rode and raced for 19miles and 5000ft of climbing.
Minehead was a helluva step up from FOD, steep, rooty, technical and incredible fun.
FOD was great but a lot more manageable.
As with all racing my finish position was nothing to write home about, I don’t turn up expecting to compete with the fast guys, my goal is to not die and not finish last. So for me… mission accomplished.
Whyte’s head MTB designer Sam Shucksmith (on the other hand) absolutely dominated on his Whyte Karve winning overall in E-bike by 1 ½ mins proving he’s designed another absolute banger of a bike. (He beat me by 9 minutes over 9 stages
)
Obviously the nut behind the bar is the main component in any race and Sam is no slouch but when it’s released that Karve looks like it’s going to be an amazing bike.
Next up, next month I’m back in the Army Series again racing at Caersŵs… I’ve raced there twice before but never on an e-bike… really looking forward to it.
